About us
At Volunteers of America, we are more than a nonprofit organization. We are a ministry of service that includes 16,000 paid, professional employees dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. Through our hundreds of human service programs, including housing and healthcare, Volunteers of America touches the lives of 1.5 million people in over 400 communities in 46 states as well as the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico each year. Since 1896, we have supported and empowered America's most vulnerable groups, including veterans, at-risk youth, the frail elderly, men and women returning from prison, homeless individuals and families, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions. Our work touches the mind, body, heart — and ultimately the spirit — of those we serve, integrating our deep compassion with highly effective programs and services. Approximately 60,000 volunteers throughout the country help our employees deliver these life-changing services

During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Volunteers of America-Greater New York is saving lives and breaking the stigma surrounding intimate partner violence. As part of a new initiative with Safe Living Space, people in our domestic violence programs who may be experiencing severe injuries to the head or neck will be screened for any possible brain injuries. New research shows that 74% of domestic and intimate partner violence results in traumatic injury to the head and neck – and our team in NYC is working diligently so survivors have the care they need Learn more about this impactful work: https://lnkd.in/e6rmmkRe

Staff from the #VOA National Office visited the National Children's Center (NCC) in D.C. last week to distribute groceries and tend to their onsite urban garden. Much like VOA, NCC is invested in the health and well-being of their local community so that every person – regardless of their background – can thrive. Thank you taking part in our mission to build #healthycommunities4all!
