VTA Chief Operating Officer Derik Calhoun and Operations Manager Steve Jovel shared valuable insights on one of the industry’s most critical topics—“Retention Fast Track – Mentoring Success: An Employee Retention Solution”—at the 2024 American Public Transportation Association Workforce Summit in Washington, D.C. This session underscored the transformative impact of mentorship programs in the transportation industry. They discussed how VTA’s workforce development strategies align with the Joint Workforce Investment (JWI) program and introduced the Women Innovating Transit (WIT) program, founded by Shannon Arms, who was also in attendance and remains a cornerstone of the efforts. Deputy Director Lisa Rae Vickery, also present, emphasized the importance of these and other initiatives, such as the Mission College and ATU Local 265 Apprenticeship, in fostering innovation and empowering our staff for long-term retention. #APTAworkforce24 #Transit #Innovation #Workforce #WomenInTransit #VTA #ATU

Do you regularly use VTA’s transit system and are passionate about ensuring a safe and secure environment for all riders? Then you should join the Transit Security Advisory Committee (TSAC), the new advisory committee to oversee the implementation of AB1735. AB1735 gives VTA the right to ban any passenger who has shown a pattern of bad behavior from its system. This includes people who assault VTA staff or members of the public. Now, it is possible to ban them from riding VTA Transit and/or returning to VTA property. VTA is among only five agencies in the state that have granted this power within the law. What do you say? Interested? For more information, visit our web page. https://bit.ly/4clTgoj
