Our featured resource of the month is from the Living Wage Institute, which produces the data hosted on the Living Wage Calculator and connects teams to the right living wage data for their needs.
The Living Wage Calculator was originally developed in 2003 to more comprehensively estimate the employment earnings – or the living wage – that a full-time worker requires to cover or support the costs of their family’s basic needs where they live.
The Living Wage Calculator’s estimate of living wage includes eight typical expenses or basic needs – childcare, civic engagement, food, health care, housing, internet and mobile, transportation, and other necessities. In addition to these basic needs, the Calculator also accounts for the additional cost to families associated with income and payroll taxes. The Living Wage Calculator currently publishes estimates for Counties, Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs), and States in the United States.
