Q: Why fertilize your trees in the fall? A: Fall fertilization helps your trees store energy and nutrients before they go dormant for the winter. This gives them a head start for the growing season, leading to better growth and stronger resistance to diseases in the spring. Don’t miss the opportunity to give your trees this essential boost! Did you know that the vibrant colors of fall leaves are actually the result of a chemical process? During the growing season, chlorophyll (the green pigment) masks the other pigments in leaves. As days get shorter and temperatures drop in the fall, chlorophyll breaks down, allowing beautiful reds, oranges, and yellows to emerge from carotenoids and anthocyanins. So, those stunning autumn hues are nature’s way of showcasing its hidden beauty before winter!

Pruning during the dormant season is often the most beneficial for trees. When pruned in dormancy, trees are less susceptible to pests and diseases. While dormant pruning is generally the best, there are circumstances when pruning in other times of the year can be beneficial as well. Need help deciding? Let Wachtel’s ISA Certified Arborists guide you!

Fall is the perfect time to nourish your trees’ soil. You can replenish essential nutrients through proper fertilization and mulching around the base of your trees. Mulch also helps to retain moisture and suppress weeds, ensuring your trees stay healthy and hydrated throughout the colder months. Need help preparing your trees for fall?
