Progress Update from Clara Brownell Middle School!  We’re excited to share milestones from our seismic retrofit project in Umatilla, OR: 1️⃣ Roofing Reinstallation: The roof is going back on! After removing it to install the new structural plywood diaphragm and strapping, we are happy to see this crucial part of the retrofit taking shape. This upgrade is essential for improving the building’s ability to handle seismic loads. 2️⃣ Gym Floor Refurbishment: The gym floor has been re-finished and is looking fantastic! With all the interior work in the gymnasium now complete for the seismic retrofit, we’re right on track to have everything wrapped up before the students return. Huge thanks to our dedicated team for their hard work and attention to detail. We’re committed to ensuring Clara Brownell School is safer and stronger for the future! Walker Structural Engineering is thrilled to be part of the team at John Tuck Elementary, where we're bringing our seismic retrofitting expertise to the project! We are enhancing the school's resilience against earthquakes by upgrading its existing structures. 🔧 What's happening: New Steel Columns: We’re carefully installing these through the roof into the gymnasium to support the old masonry walls. Bowstring Trusses Retrofit: Additional reinforcement is being added to the ceiling trusses in the gymnasium to further boost structural integrity. The project is underway and will continue through the summer, with an anticipated completion date of early September 2024.
