About us
Made in the Pacific Northwest. Founded in 1961 by brothers Tom and Bob Walsh, Walsh Construction Co. (Walsh) is a Pacific Northwest general contractor headquartered in Portland, Oregon with offices in Seattle, Tacoma, and Vancouver, Washington. Working with organizations that make fundamental contributions to the community has always been at the heart of our business--we are committed to understanding and supporting our clients' missions. We are a local leader in multi-family and affordable housing construction. Walsh’s areas of expertise also include; mixed-use; student and market-rate housing; healthcare; hospitality; and education. We have an exceptional level of expertise in wood-framed buildings, as well as a broad spectrum of other construction types, including concrete, structural steel, mass timber (CLT) and modular construction. Walsh is committed to diversity within our own ranks, and with our business and trade partners. Internally, we build a culture of community and inclusion for our employees, one where they are empowered to demonstrate our company value of generosity by giving back to the broader community. We are passionate about building responsibly for a sustainable future and in the delivery of high-performance, green buildings. We place a high priority on creating healthy, durable and highly energy-efficient buildings, understanding that a building which uses less energy will reduce environmental impacts and operating costs. We are about the marathon, not the sprint—we understand that partnership and innovation takes time through investment in people and ideas.

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone who made this year’s Providence Hood to Coast Relay—the “Mother of All Relays” and the world's largest running and walking relay race—such a big success! Our Walsh/RDF Team, The Hammerheads, tackled the 196-mile journey from Mt. Hood to Seaside in under 29 hours and 20 minutes! Fueled by teamwork, determination and a lot of laughs, our team powered through rainstorms, lack of sleep, and even a bee sting to reach the sand! A huge shoutout to our fearless runners: Ed Sloop, Forrest Gonzales, Tanner Gonzales, Jake LaManna, Kirk Chandler, Daniel Estrella, Vincent Shaw, Michael Hillebrand, Ryan Logan, Michael Coon, Nate Swift and Kim Smith and a special thank you to our amazing volunteers, Ali LaManna and Allen and Teri Montgomery. Here’s to hoping the sore muscles fade quickly and the fun memories last forever! #h2c #hoodtocoast #walshcofamily #teamhammerheads #finishcancer

The Walsh Construction Co. Community Golf Tournament presented by Merit Electric, Inc. was a huge success! ⛳ The weather fully cooperated, the volunteers were amazing, and our valued trade partners really showed up and blew us away yet again with their generosity, as we raised funds for our three non-profit beneficiaries: Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH), Council for the Homeless, and Just Compassion. Shout outs are in order for Ocean Park Mechanical, who came in as our returning champions with project manager, Kim Smith. Following closely behind, were runners-up, Jacobs Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. with Walsh’s Dan Snow. Huge thank you to our returning Presenting Sponsor, Merit Electric, Inc. for their continued support! And to our Super Premier & 19th Hole Sponsor, Wallboard Applicators! More thanks due to the following companies for sponsoring this year: 👏 Premier Sponsor: Bridgeport Interiors, Inc. 👏 Specialty Sponsors: American Heating Inc., Carpentry Plus, Inc., CalPortland/Glacier Northwest, MiTek, Ocean Park Mechanical, Parker, Smith & Feek, Pioneer Sheet Metal, Ultra Quiet Floors, and Wood Mechanix And to all of our trade partners who came out to play and support our non-profit beneficiaries. Your support makes all the difference!

Earlier this month ANEW hosted their annual Camp #buildHER events, which provide free hands-on construction experience to girls in grades 7-10. This year, Walsh's own Erin Baldwin attended as a mentor and role model, helping with the completion of various activities: during the multi-day camp, campers learned the basic elements of various construction trades, including carpentry and operating heavy machinery. Walsh is proud to be a supporter of ANEW and Camp BuildHER, and extends best wishes to all the campers as they pursue successful careers in the construction industry. A special acknowledgment goes out to Mason Kelley for capturing these memorable moments.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate the grand opening of Wecoma Place, a new affordable housing project in Lincoln City! This project is a testament to the power of collaboration and community including Stewardship Development, Housing Authority of Lincoln County, Cornerstone Community Housing, Umpqua Bank, Oregon Housing & Community Services (OHCS), National Equity Fund, Inc., Otak Architecture, and of course, the dedicated team at Walsh including Jay Nees, Weston Fassiotto, Nolan Knox and Sara Schubert. This 44-unit complex is more than just housing; it's a fresh start for many, including resilient survivors of the Echo Mountain Wildfire. Your hard work has created a space that will have a lasting impact on Lincoln County! #WalshBuildsCommunity #WalshHousing #AffordableHousing #CommunityImpact #WecomaPlace #PartnershipsMatter

We were so grateful to be a part of this important project. Kudos to Otak on their beautiful design and to our Walsh team of Jay Nees, Weston Fassiotto, Nolan Knox, and Sara Schubert!
On Friday, we got to join Housing Authority of Lincoln County and Stewardship Development for the grand opening of Wecoma Place! This development features 44 units and gives priority to those impacted by the 2020 Echo Mountain Fire. Beyond that, units are for those working in Lincoln County and living at or below 60% of the area median income. As of the event, all units had been fully moved into. Community Services Consortium and Cornerstone Community Housing will provide resident services. The development features energy-efficient appliances and fixtures to reduce utility costs for residents, and it is located close to public transportation, schools, and shopping centers. Thank you to all the partners involved in making this a reality. We're especially grateful to the county for waiving property taxes and thus reducing development costs, making this more affordable for the community. It is amazing what can happen through the power of collaboration!

To encourage collaboration and consistency (two of our Walsh values!), we get our Project Management teams from both Portland and Seattle regions together quarterly to hang out, catch up on relevant topics, and go on a field trip to recent Walsh projects. This last Monday, the teams met in Seattle where they took the light rail south to check out some of Walsh’s Transit Oriented Development (TOD) projects from the last twenty years. They stopped at the Beacon Hill station to visit the Plaza Roberto Maestas, which has 115 affordable homes and is run by Beacon Development Group and owner, El Centro de la Raza (the latter was founded by Roberto Maestas, the statue in the middle of the group shot). After that, they took a look at the Colina Apartments, a mixed-use LEED Platinum project that just opened in 2021. Then, they headed further south to the Othello station and took a short walk to tour the LIHI MLK affordable housing project, which is currently on its fourth story of wood framing, as shown in the photo. It was a great opportunity for both regions to swap ideas on building wood-frame over concrete mixed-use projects and have some fun and comradery in between! #teamcollaboration #transitorienteddevelopment #walshbuildscommunity

We're thrilled to spotlight the ongoing construction of Julia West House for Community Development Partners in partnership with Holst Architecture—a groundbreaking 12-story, 59,000 SF mass timber apartment building that will offer 90-units of critical housing assistance for Portland seniors facing housing insecurity. Set to become Portland's tallest mass timber structure upon its 2025 completion, Julia West maximizes the building's footprint on a challenging site. The team has carefully analyzed materials to ensure the most environmentally friendly choices, making this project a beacon of sustainable development. Despite the complexities of building on a compact 5,000 SF site, our talented Walsh crew — Ed Sloop, Brian Layman, Bryan Ware, Sarah Stein, Cole Boster and Caitlin Kelley — has shown unmatched precision, innovation, and teamwork. Special shout-out to our self-performed crews at RDF Builders Concrete for their incredible craft, exceptional quality, and precise schedule management! Additional teams that are making it happen: ★ Carpentry Plus, Inc. ★ Pacific Foundation ★ KPFF Consulting Engineers ★ Simpson Strong-Tie #walshaffordable #walshbuildscommunity #affordablesenior #MassTimber #AffordableHousing #Teamwork #Sustainability #Portland

JUST COMPASSION OF EAST WASHINGTON COUNTY's Resource Center expansion is progressing beautifully, thanks to our collaboration with URBAN PATTERNS ARCHITECTURE, LLC and many project partners. This new two-story facility will provide 60 trauma-informed beds and comprehensive wrap-around services. The team is ensuring uninterrupted care at Just Compassion's current center throughout construction. Once complete, the Earth Advantage Platinum-certified building will offer essential services, including counseling, mental health support, medical triage, employment training, a commercial kitchen, and temporary housing. Houselessness impacts everyone in a community, not just low-income and marginalized individuals. Just Compassion is committed to fostering community-wide responses by sharing information, encouraging discussion, and inspiring action. A huge thanks to the incredible Walsh team—Brian Layman, Nick Leeding, Jeremiah Guske, and Caitlin Kelley—for their leadership and their dedication to making a real difference in our community! #walshbuildscommunity #walshsupportivehousing #supportivehousing #communitybuilding #ConstructionWithHeart

On July 29th, our Quality team hosted a window mockup water test at our Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI) MLK Family Housing project in Seattle, WA to prepare for the window installation of the building. These water tests are a critical part of the Quality process, ensuring our high standards are applied to ensure a long-lasting and safe building envelope. A big thanks to 4EA Building Science for coming out to assist with the testing! #walshconstructionco #buildingenvelope #construction #affordablehousing
