Happy International Women's Day! I am super blessed to have many women in my professional career that inspire me every day, and who have grown in my career with me. My colleague and partner Shruti Sharma and I started a week apart at Walter P Moore (I was just an intern and she was full time) and we have supported each other for almost 20 years. I hope everyone has a sounding board, a supporter, coach and someone to call you on your potentially questionable ideas to help you grow and help find lightness in some of the tougher days. Thank you to the American Bar Association Forum on Construction Law and all of the faculty members for putting on a wonderful event last weekend with the 2025 ABA Construction Law Trial Academy. This unique opportunity allowed myself and my fellow students to learn from experienced attorneys on best practices on being an expert witness for both preparation and the trial setting. Having the opportunity to sit in the witness chair and provide opinions during mock direct and cross adds so much additional benefit compared to reading or listening to presentations on the experience and best practices. At the heart of the University of Houston campus, the new RAD Center is more than a dining and gathering space—it showcases structural ingenuity. Originally planned as a steel-framed building, we partnered with Perkins&Will to develop a mass timber alternative that optimized efficiency and cut costs. By aligning with the existing grid and leveraging mass timber’s lightweight properties, we reused foundations and columns, saving $1 million over a conventional solution. As the largest healthcare project in Georgia’s history, this 2-million-square-foot facility is designed to enhance pediatric care across the Southeast.
