One of the best parts about doing business in the fresh produce space is having the opportunity to give back to the communities in which our fruit is making a difference. Thank you to Harris Teeter and Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina for organizing the incredible "Apples in Action" campaign in the Charlotte area during the month of July. Together, we were able to donate 68,000 pounds of apples to help families in need.
We are thrilled to share that our Apples in Action campaign was a huge success! With the help of our generous vendor partners, Washington Fruit Growers, we donated 68,000 pounds of fresh apples to Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina. #HarrisTeeter #TeamTeeter #ApplesinAction

Smart growing practices are at the heart of what we do at Washington Fruit. Whether it be sunlight, soil, pest management, or a plethora of other factors that affect fruit output, our teams are always focused on making our orchards optimal for quality fruit production. At our Washington Fruit organic farms, we implement the practice of releasing beneficial insects which are native to the areas we grow fruit. The lacewing is a predatory insect to small soft bodied aphids. When aphid pressure outnumbers our native populations of lacewing, we help them out with the release of more lacewing eggs and larvae by either hand application or drone as part of our organic Integrated Pest Management strategy. This helps bring back the delicate balance of the ecosystem within the orchard and minimizes the number of potential sprays. To see this process being done by drone, check out the video below. https://lnkd.in/gv8egPHh

With the kickoff of the Washington Cherry Season, the team at Washington Fruit is busy with the start of our harvest. It takes a coordinated effort between the orchard, warehouse, transportation, and sales staff to bring the freshest Washington cherries to stores around the world. This is an exciting time for all in our industry and the rapid nature of the cherry season makes it something we look forward to all summer long. Keep your eyes open for cherries from Washington in the coming weeks. #WashingtonCherries
