WHC was out again, this time at our Hamilton Manor community in Prince George's County, MD with our partner Casey Trees for another community planting event! WHC understands the link between healthier environments and an increase in successful outcomes for residents, especially families with young children. Casey Trees donated saplings and had a wonderful crew of volunteers assist with planting. We can't wait to see how the community looks this time next year as they grow! Tomorrow, Casey Trees will be on site in Wheaton, MD at Earle Manor for additional tree plantings to improve the air quality and overall community wellbeing. #washhousing #placemaking #affordablehousing #socialimpact #socialinfrastructure

Check out this recent interview with Senthil Sankaran on Amazon's Housing Equity Fund by Urban Land Institute. Senthil and Amazon’s partnership and support have been key to WHC’s success and combatting the affordable housing crisis in the DMV. Here’s hoping other corporations join them in investing in the critical housing needed for the area’s workers. #washhousing #impactinvesting #affordablehousing https://lnkd.in/dSKG2W7d

As the US nears the Presidential Election, politicians and policymakers are focusing more on the predicament of the country's middle class. At WHC, a unique part of our work is our focus on the middle class, those whose incomes are too high to receive government aid or subsidy but who are still squeezed by the high cost of living and rent in the DMV. Alleviating rent burden and building assets through saving is critical for the upward mobility of the middle class and across income levels. WHC is dedicated to creating mixed-income communities and increasing economic connectedness that only happens when people engage with each other across lines of difference. WHC honors and celebrates Indigenous Peoples' Day. The Washington Housing Conservancy's #affordablehousing rental communities are located on the ancestral lands of the #Piscataway and #Nacotchtank peoples who were forcefully removed from the metro DC area and greater mid-Atlantic region. WHC aims to improve the conditions of both the land and our residents as its current steward through #socialimpact and #placemaking strategies. Some important resources to learn more about the peoples and cultures who continue to persevere and thrive in what is now the United States by visiting the National Museum of the American Indian online or in person, and researching your local tribes, languages, and treaties at Native Land Digital's interactive map. #indigenouspeoplesday

Over the last few months, WHC has undertaken a few new projects at our properties including a new playground at Huntwood Courts and planting trees at both Huntwood and Hamilton Manor. All of these are part of our placemaking efforts. #Placemaking is an essential facet of WHC's strategy. Through placemaking, we focus on transforming public spaces into vibrant, inclusive, and engaging areas that foster connection and well-being. It's about creating environments that reflect the values, culture, and needs of the community. Trees create a host of benefits for the urban landscape. From cleaner air and cooler temperatures to mental well-being and enhanced community spaces, investing in urban greenery is a key step toward creating sustainable, livable cities and healthy, happy communities. As part of our ongoing efforts to improve the health of our residents and communities, last weekend, WHC partnered with Casey Trees to plant 40 trees at Huntwood Courts in Ward 7. We want to thank Casey Trees for donating the trees and for all the volunteers that came out to help. This weekend, we'll be planting at Hamilton Manor. Much more to come as WHC continues to enhance our community amenities and environments. #washhousing #placemaking #affordablehousing #socialimpact #socialinfrastructure

This week WHC was pleased to host guests from Amazon, Amazon Web Services (AWS) and their healthcare professional partners at Crystal House. The connection between housing and physical and mental health is well documented and a critical part of WHC's apartment communities. Working with transformational partners like Amazon, WHC looks forward to continuing to create communities that improve our residents' health outcomes. #washhousing #affordablehousing #socialimpact #socialinfrastructure

Earlier this month, just in time for the new school year, with our partners KABOOM! and Monumental Sports & Entertainment and more than 125 volunteers, WHC built a new playground at Huntwood Courts in Ward 7.
