“When I see things like this, I’m just blown away,” said The ALS Association's Nancy Wakefield. Wakefield, Managing Director, Care Services for the Western region joined us in the ATC. Glen Garcia, Director, Care Services for Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Washington also toured the space. After exploring the ATC, Wakefield noted the center's impact for the #ALS community. “For me, the first thing that comes to mind is independence... how wonderful to be able to tell people you’ll still be able to do a lot of those things that you love to do and that you need to do.” Garcia added, "the main impact this has is being a living laboratory. I can talk about these technologies with people, but it’s really valuable that they can come here and actually use them and see how they work." Wakefield also emphasized the ongoing need for organizations to stay focused. “Let’s get together, collaborate, bring our strengths for one purpose.” Pictured: Dr. Isaacs, Director Steve Gleason Institute, Nancy Wakefield, Glen Garcia

A huge thank you to our Native American Health Sciences Assistant Director, Jerry Crowshoe, for delivering part of the keynote address. Crowshoe spoke about NAHS and the Center for Native American Health. Go Cougs!

  • ✨ Get to know the WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine! ✨ We have enjoyed highlighting the different colleges here on our Spokane campus the last few weeks and our excited to close it off with featuring WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. 🩺 The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is training the next generation of health care leaders who are passionate about serving in Washington, especially in rural or traditionally underserved communities. Today, as the first class of WSU MD alumni are finishing up their extensive medical training, many are choosing to return to Washington to practice and some are even rejoining the college as faculty to train the next generation. 🥼 🌟Fun fact: Late WSU president Elson S. Floyd had a vision of creating a community-based medical school in Washington. To achieve this, WSU needed bipartisan support from the Washington State Legislature. On April 1, 2015, Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill into law, giving WSU the authority to establish an independently accredited medical school in Spokane. 📝 The WSU College of Medicine also offers degree and certificate programs in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Health Administration and Leadership, and Medical Ethics. 🐾 Additionally, the college has three residency programs where resident physicians are advancing their training while treating patients in communities across Washington. #WSUSpokane #SpoCougs #CougDocs #WSUMedicine #GoCoug

When Joshua Neumiller was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes shortly after graduating pharmacy school he was inspired to help others learn how to live with their diabetes and self-manage treatments. His dedication to diabetes education and research has led to his current role as President-Elect of Health Care & Education for the 2024 American Diabetes Association (ADA) Board of Directors as well as his more recent selection as the ADA’s 2024 Outstanding Educator in Diabetes Awardee. This summer, Healio caught up with the Allen I. White Distinguished Professor to ask about his research, mentors, and interests outside of diabetes care.
