In 2018, Chevon Powell created Golden Bricks Events, an outdoor-focused BIPOC-centered event production company. That same year, she put together the first gathering of what would become the signature event, Refuge Outdoor Festival. Refuge Outdoor Festival is a multi-day experience geared toward people of color and centered on building community through outdoor rec. It's a ton of fun — and you can expect to see WTA there every year! Learn about Chevon's work and follow Golden Bricks Events to keep an eye out for their upcoming 2025 event calendar 📅

Washington’s state budget is tighter than we’ve seen in years. That’s why we’re asking you to show up for the trails that sustain us by joining us in Olympia on March 18 for Hiker Rally Day. Join fellow hikers and WTA staff to meet with state representatives to share why funding for trails needs to be protected this legislative session. You don’t need any experience with state government — just a passion for the outdoors. WTA has a proven track record of securing and maintaining funding for our state’s public lands, but we need your help. Sign up by Feb. 25 to save your spot by visiting wta.org/rally. 📸 Photos courtesy of Don Jacobson, Dan Kim, Dale Blair and WTA Archives #Advocacy #NonProfit #Government

The 2025 Washington state legislative session just kicked off. Between now and April, legislators will decide funding and policies for our state’s outdoor areas. But this year, the budget is TIGHT. Legislators will be making cuts. And trails will need your help. Learn our priorities for the 2025 legislative session and how you can support our state lands in Olympia this March 👇🏼 #Washington #StateParks #NaturalResources #FishAndWildlife

Join WTA at Hiker Rally Day in Olympia on March 18 to protect funding for trails and public lands! Washington faces a projected budget shortfall of more than $10 billion, and outdoor access could be on the chopping block. Representatives are more likely to protect funding for public lands if they hear from hikers like you. WTA has a proven track record of securing and maintaining funding for our state’s public lands and for equitable access to nature. But these wins are only possible with your help. Space is limited. Learn more and sign up by Jan. 31 so we can save you a spot: wta.org/rally See you at the capitol! 🥾🌲📣 #PublicLands #Capitol #Trails

Thanks to Wyld for supporting our efforts in 2024 to make trails more accessible to wheelchair hikers statewide. With their support, WTA trail crews built a raised section of trail on the Oaks to Wetland Loop at Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, reducing barriers to people who use wheelchairs. Wyld's support also helped us improve information on wheelchair-friendly trails in our online Hiking Guide. In 2024, we added 80 more trails to our wheelchair-friendly filter. Now, hikers can browse more than 300 trails that are designated partially or fully wheelchair friendly in Washington. We’re grateful to partners like Wyld that support our efforts to reduce barriers to getting outdoors as we work towards our vision of Trails for Everyone, Forever. #Partnership #Volunteer #NonProfit
