For many years, the Strawberry Mansion community has been waiting for the restoration of one of their most beloved assets – the historic John Coltrane House. STRAWBERRY MANSION COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION INC (SMCDC) has been working to restore and activate this significant site, and the block in which it is located, in order to provide a cultural resource and community hub, bringing opportunities for engagement, gathering, and learning to the community. SMCDC is reviving the outdoor community space that was, for many years, used and cherished as an outdoor venue for concerts and community events. The Yard has been designed to incorporate the arts – music, visual, and performing – with an outdoor gallery of local artists and a stage to perform. The official opening of The Yard on John Coltrane Street will be November 9th!
