Recently our team, led by Senior Aquatic Biologist, Colin Gosselin, conducted a thorough survey to confirm invasive phragmites and treatment areas at our client's property. Phragmites australis, an invasive reed common in New England wetlands, poses a serious threat to native ecosystems. Its rapid spread crowds out native plants, degrades habitats for wildlife, and alters the natural hydrology of wetlands. Controlling this invasive species is crucial to restoring balance to local ecosystems. For the treatment of invasive phragmites, a liquid herbicide was applied to the foliage using a Marsh Master amphibious UTV equipped with a spray tower, ensuring efficient application in hard-to-reach terrain. For areas the Marsh Master couldn’t reach, our biologists used backpack sprayers for precise, low-volume foliar applications. In low-density areas or spots near native plants, they carefully hand-wiped phragmites to avoid any non-target impact. 🌱 Thanks to dry conditions and lower water levels, site navigation was smooth. We’ll return in about 8 weeks to remove the dead phragmites. Stay tuned for updates!

Water & Wetland provides management of lakes, ponds and wetlands throughout New England.
About us
Water & Wetland, a Jones Lake Management Partner, has nearly two decades of individual experience in lake, pond and wetland management. Prior to founding Water & Wetland, Colin Gosselin and Joe Onorato worked in lake management and saw an opportunity to change the industry. Our goal is to provide unique individual attention to each waterbody we work on. Plans are completely customized and we pride ourselves on excellent communication with our customers. We want you to know that we care about your waterbody as much as you do. While wetlands are complex and precious, they are also highly regulated in New England. We aim to find the perfect balance between restoring a healthy eco-system and achieving our customers' goals, all while working within their desired budget. We handle process from start to finish including surveys and water quality, permitting and regulatory compliance and a wide array of management options.

We are honored to share that our Central Indiana Branch Manager, Reid L. Morehouse, Ph.D., delivered a compelling presentation to a captivated audience of over 300 industry professionals at the Midwest Aquatic Plant Management Society (MAPMS) 44th Annual Meeting. The focus? The critical science and undeniable benefits of phosphorus mitigation in lake management programs. By limiting its bioavailability, we can pave the way for a healthier aquatic ecosystem. We are privileged to help support the efforts of MAPMS by sponsoring their conference. Supporting initiatives like MAPMS underscores our commitment to advancing knowledge, fostering collaboration, and driving positive change in aquatic plant management At Jones Lake Management, our science driven solutions and comprehensive plans are tailored to address your unique pond/lake concerns and personal goals. Together, let's safeguard our water for generations to come. #NutrientMitigation #WaterQuality #LakeManagement #PondManagement

National Invasive Species Awareness Week is February 26 - March 3rd so it's the perfect time to shine a spotlight on silent invaders threatening native ecosystems. Phragmites (Phragmites australis) pose a formidable challenge because they grow aggressively, choking out native plants and dominating wetlands. Last fall, our Jones Lake Management, Aqua Services and Wisconsin Lake & Pond Resource teams collaborated on a project to control phragmites at the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife & Fish Refuge. In the northeast, Water & Wetland, A Jones Lake Management Partner has extensive experience managing phragmites, taking on major projects every fall when herbicide applications are most effective. We are proud to take action and help protect aquatic ecosystems for future generations. The North American Invasive Species Management Association hosts educational webinars on priority species.
