Mining for elements such as copper, cobalt, nickel and lithium is essential as we look to a low carbon future. The growth of renewable power, electricity networks, hydrogen, EV and battery storage technologies are driving an ever-greater need for mining of these elements. Water is vital in every mine. It is used in many ways from extraction, washing, and sorting of the minerals being mined, to dust suppression, slurry transport and employee welfare. How that water is managed is important for both the efficient running of a mine and the ESG implications for the company – not to mention complying with local and national legislation. Water reuse in mining can significantly reduce freshwater consumption, lower treatment costs, and ensure compliance with environmental standards — key benefits that align with a more sustainable future for the industry. We're looking forward to hosting this roundtable, "Water Reuse and Mining" at the WateReuse Association’s Industrial Reuse Conference, November 19-21 in Indian Wells, CA. #AECOM’s Lucy Pugh and Eric Schraml will be leading a discussion on the critical role of water reuse in minimizing environmental impact and enhancing sustainable mining practices. Water is abundant and droughts are rare in the Northeast United States, so what are the region’s drivers for water recycling? Coastal flooding, sewer overflow, and outdated infrastructure just to name a few. Register for the Webcast: https://lnkd.in/epf-Ezh4 In this webcast, you will hear from our co-host, New England Water Environment Association (NEWEA) about the history, practices, and challenges of water reuse in the Northeast. We will then dive into two case studies of successful water recycling projects in the area, including the origins of the project, the partnerships, public outreach, funding, and permit considerations. The webcast will conclude with a presentation from Seatuck Environmental Association and IMEG – two organizations that were instrumental in crafting & advocating for the Long Island Water Reuse Roadmap & Action Plan. This roadmap is one of the first strategic water reuse plans passed in New England. Photo courtesy of New York City Department of Environmental Protection
