EPRI's GET SET initiative "will be providing a framework and guidance about planning and the best way to operate them from a system perspective," says Alberto Del Rosso. Anna Lafoyiannis points out the value of additional research and development of best practices: “Being able to quantify benefits and impacts at a more regional level, or even at a utility level, is helpful because electric conditions and environmental conditions can vary. And an assessment should also include practical considerations, like deployment timelines, permitting considerations, and supply chain, to fully prepare for the future.” https://lnkd.in/g38myUM3?

The WATT Coalition supports education and policies to expand the deployment of grid-enhancing technologies.
About us
The Working for Advanced Transmission Technologies (WATT) Coalition advocates for policy that supports wide deployment of Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs), to improve grid operations and planning. In operations, these technologies reduce congestion costs and improve economic dispatch, situational awareness and reliability. In planning, they reduce the time, cost and complexity of integrating new generation and load. WATT members include Ampacimon, LineVision, Lindsey Systems, NewGrid, Smart Wires, and WindSim Americas Inc. Learn about unlocking more value from the grid at watt-transmission.org.

Transmission capacity is very valuable: $7.7 billion in traditional transmission investment in Southwest Power Pool is expected to pay for itself 8 times over! If Grid Enhancing Technologies were applied on top of these upgrades, the benefits could be even greater. After Federal Energy Regulatory Commission Order No. 1920 is implemented, Regional Transmission Organizations like SPP will be required to evaluate GETs in place of, and to increase the value of, traditional transmission investments. https://lnkd.in/eczXsd2D

APFC included in GRIP project for a second year running! Avista Utilities and Idaho Power will use SmartValves to support optimized use of a line that'll be newly rebuilt in this project to increase interregional transfer capability⚡ The project will improve resilience and reliability and increase interregional transfer capacity by approximately 635 MW in total, benefiting hundreds of thousands of customers across Washington, Idaho, and Oregon. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law established the GRIP program to invest in projects that enhance grid flexibility, improve the power system’s resilience against growing threats of extreme weather and climate change, and ensure American communities have access to affordable, reliable, clean electricity when and where they need it. This project was selected through the second round of GRIP funding and award negotiations will begin shortly. Press release ➡️ https://hubs.ly/Q02VQdwP0

Appreciated speaking with members of Utah’s Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology Interim committee yesterday on grid modernization. Testified about how advanced transmission technologies (ATTs) help squeeze more capacity out of existing transmission infrastructure. Utah, like states across the country, is seeing demand for electricity grow. Great to share what other states have been doing to encourage deploying ATTs to maintain energy competitiveness and help meet demand.
