On Indigenous Peoples Day, we honor and celebrate the cultures and histories of Indigenous communities— including the communities who made their homes along the Detroit River. Wayne RESA worked with the Tribal Nations of Michigan to regularly honor those who lived on the land of our campuses in our land acknowledgement. In October we celebrate Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) Awareness Month, and the great work that our Special Education team does to ensure all children have the tools they need to effectively communicate. We recently welcomed Chris Klein, renowned AAC user and author, to speak with our Low-Incidence Assistive Technology coaches across Wayne County. Chris shared his powerful story, discussing the importance of overcoming ableism, and supporting our students with complex communication needs. #AACaware24
