Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part VIII Practice Interview & Planning your Route: - Practicing interviewing with a loved one, friend or just yourself in front of the mirror can be a very useful exercise. All you'd need to practice is your introduction and share some examples as they pertain ot the role itself that you are interviewing for. - Determine the interview location and plan your route in advance. Aim to arrive 15 minutes early to account for unexpected delays on the day. If this meeting is online or a phone call, make sure you've wrapped up anything 15 minutes prior so you can get yourself ready. If the meeting will run for 1 hour or more, it might help to make a quick bathroom stop too or grab a glass of water for the meeting.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part VII Dressing Appropriately & Body Language - Whether you're on a zoom call or meeting in person, we would always suggest that you wear professional or smart casual attire that aligns with the company culture. Ask your recruiter for guidance if needed, but remember it is always better to be overdressed than under. - Pay attention to your body language during the interview, maintain eye contact and don't forget to turn off any devices so you don't get distracted. - When being asked a question, listen to understand and pay attention, do not get distracted or even appear to be distracted. Your devices should be out of sight and reach and if you are on a computer, close down all emails and communication channels so your eyes don't drift to an email or message from a colleague.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part VI Prepare Questions to Ask: - Prepare thoughtful questions to ask the interviewer about the company, the team and the role. This shows your interest and engagement, having no questions is never a good sign. Make sure you ask for feedback from your interview, most interviewers will share this openly and don't forget to end by asking what the next steps will be. - If you found some common ground at the start of the meeting, maybe a shared passion for travel or a cuisine, end your meeting with a comment on this topic.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part V The role: - Most of the questions being asked of you should relate to the role itself, even if they don't seem obvious they will be. If the interviewer asks if you can work in an autonomous way, it is likely because the role will require someone to work alone for large periods without direct support, for example. - When discussing the role it is strongly advised that you have questions prepared so that you understand exactly what is expected. A Good measure is to ensure you walk away knowing what 75%+ of this role genuinely entails and from that, fi these responsibilities are all within your areas of expertise and are tasks you know you can complete it. - A little back and forth when discussing the role is expected from the interviewer, if you have no questions about the job it will indicate that you are not really interested.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part IV Behavior Lead Questions: - Be prepared to answer behavioral questions that will help the interviewer to assess past actions and behaviors, such as "Give me an example of a time when you faced a challenging situation at work." - These questions will likely be relevant to the role itself, so be mindful of what you say, and be sure to keep it related to the role you're interviewing for. Don't give an example of a project from 10 years ago when the interviewer clearly wants clarity on your current position and experiences. - With any question it is fine to take a few seconds to gather your thoughts, don't sit in silence for 30 seconds but take your time to consider what you will say.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part III Prepare your introduction: Not all interviews will require you to give an introduction, but some will and if you're not ready this will start off your interview on the wrong foot. The interviewer is simply wanting to find out a little about you, both personally and professionally. Information to share should include: - Your location, this will not always seem relevant, but common ground can be found in your location (you never know where they have family, friends or love to visit) - Talk about your current role and responsibilities (think about what YOU specialize in and what makes you invaluable to your team), this is a quick win and a way for you to emphasize what you do for your current company and how important you are, fi you are not in a role just explain what you did in your last role. - Have you been promoted in recent years? If so, make sure you explain this and the reason for it and what it meant to your role. Hiring Managers will want to know that they are talking with someone who they can see growing in their role and who shows clear value to an employer. - Do you manage people or have you lead on projects? Everyone wants to hear that the interviewee can be responsible and can take ownership of people, initiatives or projects. - End the introduction with a brief on why you're looking to move on and why this role excites you, this will move the interview ahead positively and ensure the interviewer knows that you're serious about this opportunity.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part II Read the Job Description: You wouldn't believe how many people turn up to interviews and have not read the actual description of the role, or did not read it within a day of the interview. Read the full description and be sure to make notes on the expectations and responsibilities so that you can share recent examples. As a general rule, most job descriptions highlight the main responsibilities in the first 3-5 bullet points and will always state requirements with a general outline on years' of experience in certain roles and with added qualifications, but do not let this information knock your confidence. You are interviewing because multiple people believe YOU CAN DO THIS JOB based on YOUR EXPERIENCE. It is, however, up to you to ensure you relay your experiences as they align to this job to the interviewer.

Wayoh Interview Tips & Techniques, Part I Have you carried out research on the Interviewer(s) and Company? Learn about the company's history, mission, values, products or services, and recent news or developments, this information can typically be found on their website or social platforms (LinkedIn usually). When looking on Linkedin be sure to see if you have any mutual connections currently at the company, whether you have a relationship with this person or not, you should reach out to state that you are interviewing for a role and ask for some advice and insight into the company, people usually oblige. Glassdoor can be helpful, but be careful as this site is known to attract only those who had a negative experience (if you do see anything specifically alarming, speak with your recruiter before the interview). Asking questions at the end based on this research will only be a good thing. Look up the Interviewer on LinkedIn, your recruiter will likely have shared this but if not, a quick search will take you to their page. Information you'll need includes their tenure and current role, previous employers, credentials and maybe you'll see some information to start the call with around their interests or shared connections. If you are meeting with someone and do not have their information, it is a good thing to state that you tried to find their profile but couldn't, perhaps they are not online or have a hidden profile, this in itself may lead to a warm conversation as they will likely tell you about themselves!
