  Downtown Raleigh continues to grow and add more residents, retail space, restaurants, and hotel rooms, all of which impact the vibrancy and experiences of our urban core. Along with more than 500 leaders from Japan and seven Southeast states, Sam Rauf attended the 46th Annual Southeast U.S./Japan Conference in Charlotte last week. Over the past decade, Japanese companies have been North Carolina’s largest source of foreign direct investment, with more than 31,000 North Carolinians working at 225 Japanese-owned companies across the state. Throughout the conference, we celebrated the Japanese-North Carolina relationship with our local, regional, state and international partners.

Elevate Leadership ranked Raleigh as the 3rd Best City to Start a Career! Analysts reviewed data from the 50 largest cities in the U.S. with a high concentration of young adults aged 20 to 29. Key metrics include job market strength, housing costs, and commute times. Raleigh consistently ranks in the top 10 for shortest commute times in the nation. The quality of life, cost of living, and recreation in the area supports healthy lifestyles across all generations. With a GDP of $550bn – approximately the same as Sweden – it was named ‘America’s top state for business’ in a study for CNBC last year.  We’re indebted to Wake County’s economic development team and the U.K. Government Office in North Carolina, for helping us build a jam-packed two-day programme and facilitating meetings with key organisations. Wake County offers an upward mobility bonus as part of its Business Investment Grant. The bonus is intended to encourage business practices that reduce barriers to employment and economic mobility. If a company qualifies for a Business Investment Grant, they must also have at least five programs that support the intention of the bonus.   Weatherby Healthcare, who recently announced 148 new jobs and a $7 million investment in Raleigh, took advantage of the county’s upward mobility bonus, which the Wake County Commission approved in a public hearing earlier this week.   Chairwoman Shinica Thomas and Commissioner Cheryl Stallings commented on investing in your employees. “An investment in your employees is an investment in the community.”   Incentives in Wake County: https://lnkd.in/g63HQa_4 Welcome, Weatherby! https://lnkd.in/guHb7Dfk Wake County Economic Development Raleigh Economic Development
