On March 8, 1924, a coal mine in Castle Gate, Utah experienced a series of violent explosions, resulting in the deaths of 172 men. Many of the brave miners lost in this tragedy left behind spouses and children, their husbands and fathers taken from them in an instant. With the passage of the Workmen’s Compensation Act seven years earlier, these families had access to benefits to help them carry the financial burden of their loss. A century later, we remember and honor these fallen workers and continue our commitment to supporting local workers and their families. #WCFWednesday #WeAreWCF

This summer’s internship program has come to a close, and we want to thank the interns who joined us for the past few months! Each intern provided fresh perspectives and an impact on WCF as a whole. “Even as an intern, I could sense the genuine care WCF has for their employees,” said Mike Muniz, a data analyst intern in the Claims department. “I truly appreciated the friendly and welcoming people around me, and they had a significant impact on my experience.” We look forward to seeing what comes next for this amazing group! #WeAreWCF

At WCF's 34th annual Legacy of Learning Scholarship luncheon, 22 deserving undergraduate and postgraduate students were awarded scholarships to support their educational and career goals. The program celebrates these recipients and honors family members who tragically lost their lives in work-related accidents.    Since 1990, WCF has awarded over 1,300 scholarships through the program and is grateful to continue this tradition of support. Mackenzie Riviera, one of this year's recipients, said, "[My father's] influence continues to guide and motivate me. It is because of his support, even in his absence, that I am here today, pursuing my dreams and receiving this scholarship."   We want to thank our keynote speaker, Brad Mortensen, President of Weber State University, for his inspiring remarks that set the tone as we remembered these fallen workers and celebrated the resilience of their families.    Read more here: https://lnkd.in/g5GwthnC    #WeAreWCF

On June 30, 1917, the Utah state legislature passed the Workmen's Compensation Act, which required all employers in the state to have workers' compensation insurance. The next day, the State Insurance Fund was created, and Charles A. Caine was appointed as the first manager of what would later become WCF Insurance. Caine helped the company to become the largest provider of workers' compensation insurance in the state of Utah. Over 100 years later, WCF continues to support local businesses and their employees. #WCFWednesday #WeAreWCF
