WDET was happy to host a delegation of journalists from Lithuania at our studios yesterday! The journalists’ visit was coordinated by GlobalTies Detroit through the Open World Program of the US Department of State. While at WDET, the journalists got a behind-the-scenes tour of the station, learned about operations and the challenges of raising money for a free service. The Lithuanian journalists and their translators met many on-air hosts and watched a live broadcast of The Metro. Here’s to international connections!

We’re excited to announce that The Metro officially has a new co-host: Robyn Vincent! Before returning home to Detroit, Robyn was a reporter, producer, editor and executive producer for NPR stations in the Mountain West. She amassed several awards for her work, which often focuses on structural inequities and abuses of power. Robyn is a lifelong listener of WDET, a graduate of Wayne State University, where she studied journalism, and a lover of Detroit techno. She’ll be on-air with Tia Graham every Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to noon. Welcome to the team, Robyn 🥳

There are nearly four million Muslims in the United States, including about 240,000 in Michigan. In the 2020 presidential election, American Muslims were a big part of why Joe Biden won Michigan by just 155,000 votes. This year, some say they feel politically homeless — not understood or welcomed by either Republicans or Democrats.

We're still basking in the afterglow of reaching our 2024 Fall Fundraiser goal! Thanks to everyone in metro Detroit who helped us raise over $330,000 to keep Detroit Public Radio alive! Also a HUGE thank you to our staff — both on-air and behind the scenes — who worked tirelessly to help pull this fundraiser off.
