    Volunteering at Non Profit Organizations

To my LinkedIn Colleagues: I am writing to request your support for a non-profit for which I am a Board Member. It is called We Connect the Dots (WCTD) and is dedicated to empowering individuals through its UpSkill Program, which provides essential training for entry-level technology careers. WCTD is currently applying for the NYS DOL Reemployment Training Grant (RTG) to expand our program and offer it at a reduced cost. This funding will allow us to train more participants in critical skills like Business Automation with AI integration, and the integration of products like ChatGPT, and data visualization. Additionally, our program includes psychological safety, critical thinking, and problem-solving training to ensure participants are well-prepared for the modern workplace. As such, we are requesting letters of support from our friends and colleagues.  It is a very simple letter of support. It states that you would consider conducting Mock Interviews and potentially interview candidates for internships. No financial commitment nor hiring commitment is required. A sample letter is attached to this LinkedIn post. Your endorsement would greatly strengthen our application and be invaluable in helping us secure this grant and expand our impact. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of many individuals and contribute to the growth and prosperity of our community. Thank you for considering our request. I would be happy to discuss this further and provide any additional information you may need.

I want to thank Jeffrey Basinger and Denise Bonilla for their wonderful recounting of the Support and Networking model called COTA, the Council of Thought and Action. Jeffrey filmed COTA for many years, meeting with members in their homes and at work. He looked at their personal successes and failures and came out with a video that captures the dream, vision and purpose of COTA. Take a read and listen. Much has been said about COTA, but those who saw it up close were amazed by the model, and those who call themselves the brothers and sisters of COTA know its worth and their own. I’ve often said, if you are in Law Enforcement and don’t believe in second chances and more… you have lost your way. The goal of policing is to stop crime. Changing people’s minds and lives is the key. They may need a time out in prison, but when they come home, like kids in the corner after a time out, we must address their thoughts and actions that earned them their time out.
