Helping our clients achieve their wealth management and life goals inspires us to reach new heights. WPA Founding Partner, Mike Mikeska, recently summited seven 14,000-foot peaks and one 13,000-foot peak during an eight-day adventure in Colorado. Joined by good friends and clients Doug Hazelbaker and Shawn Grisham for three of the climbs, Mike completed the remaining four with his son, Jack Mikeska, and even tackled one solo. Congratulations, Mike, on this incredible achievement! . . . #wealthpartnersalliance #independentfinancialadvice #poweredbyconcurrent David A. Equities: The Mag 7 and other AI-related stocks took a step back in July. Uncertainty surrounding earnings and increased capex related to AI weighed on optimism. The Mag 7, on average, declined 0.6% in July, negatively impacting the technology and communication services sectors within the S&P 500. Lower interest rates and expectations of a September Fed rate cut created renewed optimism around small cap and value equities. The concentrated domestic large cap indices lagged on growing uncertainty around upcoming earnings season. International equities modestly edged out domestic large cap. Fixed Income Interest rates moved lower across the curve during July following a favorable June CPI report which was released mid-month. Pricing in futures markets signal a high likelihood of an initial rate cut in September. Lower interest rates were a boon for fixed income assets during July. Non-government sectors such as corporate bonds and mortgages performed well. Non-U.S. debt was boosted by a falling U.S. dollar. Real Asset/Alternatives Commodity markets struggled in July, with all but the precious metals sub-component posting negative returns. Supply and demand dynamics have weighed on oil prices recently but rising tensions in the Middle East create uncertainty. Precious metals rose early on but eased modestly following the softer inflation report mid-month. July was a strong month for REITs as markets reversed course from earlier in the year. Easing interest rates and expectations for the Fed to start cutting its policy rate this fall was the driving factor in the rally. Data centers struggled as the AI craze was subdued modestly in July and the specialty sub-sector remains the standout year-to-date.
