BIG LOVE IN THE COV. With its 10 ft. tall aluminum “C” and “V,” and a 12 ft. tall heart to serve as a stand in for the “O,” the “Love The Cov” sculpture was installed today at Riverfront Commons. Banz Studios, the Cincinnati art studio and gallery that curated the sculpture and the artist team of Indianapolis-based artists Owens + Crawley, oversaw the process until installation was complete. Southbank Partners commissioned the sculpture, along with the support of meetNKY and the Horizon Fund, who partnered to gift the piece to the City of Covington as part of the regional Riverfront Commons project. Banz Studios and Owens + Crawley were also the team behind the luminous “Everybody’s Bench” at the 700 block of Scott Street. The sculpture is the inaugural piece to enhance the Riverfront Commons multi-use path along the riverfront, which will connect the river cities from Devou Park in the west, to Pendery Park in the east, and has been Southbank Partners’ signature project since the early 2000s. Banz Studio Sr. Art Consultant Chelsea Tucker came up with the inspiration for the sculpture while visiting her hometown. “I visit Chicago a lot, I’m from around there, and they have an art walk along a neighborhood,” said Tucker. “I talked to Will Weber (Southbank Partners President & CEO) and came up with a couple of concepts, and this is one of the first concepts he really liked, so this is going to be the first of what is hopefully many along the riverfront.” A placard featuring the City’s manifesto is placed next to the sculpture, welcoming all to “the bold side of the river.” Tucker said they wanted something interactive, and hope that people will be inspired to stand beneath the letters – beneath the heart, which is why they made it so large - and people can sit on the “C." “Owens + Crawley have been great to work with,” said Tucker. “They helped us finalize the details and structurally built it out, and helped bring it all together.
