    The numbers are in—women are leading the way in entrepreneurship: ⟶ More women than men—54% vs. 46%—run businesses on Shopify. ⟶ Between 2019 and 2023, women-owned businesses saw a 94% higher growth rate than male-owned businesses. ⟶ Women-owned businesses outpaced the growth of men-owned businesses by 253% in jobs created and 82% in revenue. Why are more women turning to entrepreneurship? Flexibility. More than half of women prospective business owners want a flexible work schedule, a sentiment shared by entrepreneurs Carrie Morey, Shawna Jacobs, and Cathryn Lavery who found balance between raising a family and a business.     In ecommerce, milliseconds can make a difference. Online stores that load fast are a better customer experience, which leads to more sales. Shopify stores are faster across the board, according to publicly available data from Google’s Core Web Vitals. We compared 200,000 sites and the data showed Shopify stores are up to 2.4x faster than stores on other platforms. That’s because we constantly invest in innovation and R&D, so that we can give our merchants every advantage possible. Our philosophy: tackle the complicated issues so that businesses can focus on what they do best, and save our merchants the time and resources they might spend on trying to make their websites faster.

    We’re on the brink of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, and at Shopify we have a birds-eye view of what’s trending in commerce – including which items our merchants have been selling the most. Here are a few food trends we’ve noticed as the weather gets warmer: 1. Tropical fruits This is historically a busy time of year for merchants who sell fresh produce, with a wide variety of fruits and vegetables in-season during the summertime. This month fresh mangoes were the number one trending food item for Shopify merchants, with sales increasing 103% month over month. We’ve also seen an 88% increase month over month in demand for cherimoyas, also known as custard apples. This fruit, native to South America, was once described by Mark Twain as “the most delicious fruit known to man” – not a bad testimonial! 2. Heat-beating desserts Beating the heat was a trend across all categories this month (top non-food items include pool toys and desk fans), so it’s no surprise to see that in the food category, ice pops are up 20% month over month. Pudding and gelatin are also up 39% month over month, likely due to their notorious status as summertime cookout desserts. And speaking of cookouts… 3. BBQ staples Beans are up 35% month over month, because what’s a cookout without the sides? We’ve also seen a 16% increase month over month in sales of hot dog’s best friend, ketchup. Looks like shoppers are stocking up for backyard barbecues and graduation parties. If you need more validation that customers are looking to dine outdoors, we’ve also seen increases in purchases for everything from picnic blankets to coolers and beverage dispensers. Any surprises?

    Shopify has recently introduced a new feature aimed at improving the in-store shopping experience: 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐎𝐒 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐨𝐮𝐭𝐬. This feature is designed to help retailers capture essential customer information directly at the point of sale, enhancing customer service and operational efficiency. Key Features: Customer Detail Collection: Retailers can now enforce the collection of critical customer details at checkout, including first name, last name, email, and phone number. This ensures that stores can maintain contact with customers, offering better after-sales support and marketing opportunities. Flexible Validation Settings: The system offers two levels of validation for customer details - 'recommended' and 'required'. While 'recommended' allows staff to skip entering customer details, 'required' mandates the input of certain information before completing a sale. Staff Attribution: An added layer of customization comes with the ability to attribute each sale to a staff member, either automatically or manually. This feature, once enabled, is mandatory for every checkout, providing clearer insights into staff performance and sales attribution. Easy Configuration: All checkout validation settings can be configured within the Shopify admin, allowing for seamless integration and customization to fit the specific needs of each retailer. This feature not only promises to streamline in-store operations but also aims to create a more personalized shopping experience for customers.
