About us
Minority Recovery Collective Inc. (MRCI, pronounced mercy) was founded in 2018 by Indianapolis native, Natasha Cheatham. Inspired by the lived experiences of her and her mother, Natasha set out to create spaces where individuals and families could come together, have a good time, and not be triggered by substances or violence. In January of 2019, MRCI held it's first Sober Social, with a Family Game Night theme. As of June 2021, MRCI is looking for a permanent space to expand its services to provide Wrap-Around Supports that include Peer Support, Addiction Treatment, Mental Health Services, Supportive Employment, and Transitional Housing.

Application is open for The Antidotes program for Summer 2024. The Antidotes are a collective of young people (ages 12-29) working to prevent substance use, promote mental health, and encourage positive coping skills through Peer Mentoring. Developed by youth, for youth, The Antidotes empowers participants to make healthy choices and positively contribute to their community. From peer mentoring to service-learning, The Antidotes are making a difference to meet the needs of their peers and be of service to their community. All applicants will be considered for program participation and matched with a mentor. NOTE: Selected applicants will participate in a small cohort to be trained and certified as Youth Peer Support Specialists to implement peer mentorship where they are (church, community center, school, etc.). While attending weekly sessions over the summer (Jun - Sep), participants will: - Earn a stipend and complete work-based learning + training. - Gain leadership opportunities with MRCI and our partners. - Highlight their experiences and work via podcasting & social media. - Join a network of mental health/recovery advocates & professionals. - Present at our annual recovery month conference, Summit UP. - Receive one-on-one mentoring for their personal, academic, & professional growth. - Receive a ticket to the Inaugural Legacy Gala 2024. In alignment with MRCI’s core principles and values, The Antidotes centers the lived experience of young people as an essential part of meeting their mental health needs today. The quality of life for young people is worsening by the day, while most are living with vastly different circumstances than we experienced and saw at their age. To improve the well-being of young people, The Antidotes amplifies youth voices and creates opportunities for them to support their peers. If you are interested or you know a young person who may be interested, we encourage you to apply today and share! #WeAreMRCI https://buff.ly/3U2O3dW

Happy International Women's Day! 🌸✨ As we celebrate the incredible achievements of women worldwide, we are thrilled to shine a spotlight on the remarkable women who have created our organization and continue to inspire us today. We are so grateful to the trailblazers, the visionaries, and the change-makers who have paved the way for our founders to educate, alleviate, and elevate our community through harm reduction, peer support, and safe spaces for stress relief. Over the last two years, they have travelled across the country to learn about and support the development of Black Peer Professionals and Recovery Community Organizations (RCOs). All while still being of service within our community right here in Indianapolis. These extraordinary women saw a need and turned it into a powerful force for transformation. Through their dedication and innovation, they have created a community that uplifts and empowers individuals through the strength of peer support. International Women's Day is not just a day but a movement, a reminder to honor the strength, resilience, and accomplishments of women in every corner of the globe. Let's come together to celebrate the achievements of women past and present, while we nurture the young women around us as they learn and work to create a healthier future. - The Wellness Collective #WeAreMRCI #InternationalWomensDay #WomensDays2024 #Trailblazers #BlackWomenFounders #WomensHistoryMonth

Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who has inspired us through his words and actions. As a membership-based service organization, we're doing our part to get us all closer to equity, freedom, and wellness. At the core of Dr. King's work were messages about the harmful byproducts of capitalism and racism, which go far beyond the lens of nonviolence that is so often used. His quote, "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools," calls on us to be more than bystanders in this life. That is what peer support is all about, and why it is at the core of all that we do. It is our duty and responsibility to take the initiative and the necessary steps to create communal well-being, collectively. Through mutual support, we can dismantle recovery stigma and foster a culture of compassion and empathy. Together we can transform our lives and communities to be rooted in wealth and wellness for all. Stay engaged with us on social media or sign up for updates on our website. #MLKDay2024 #WeAreMRCI #PeerSupportinAction #PeerSupport #Membership #Recovery #MentalHealth #ServicetoAllMankind #BeOfService #WeAreNotBystanders #RecoveryisPossible #RecoveryisNecessary #PeerPressureWorks
