🙌 B Corps are proof of what’s possible. Why can’t every company in the UK be better? 👥 At #Nuevo we’re proud to be part of the Better Business Act coalition. ℹ️ The BBA is a campaign backed by over 2,500 companies, who want to see the UK Companies Act 2006 improved, so that it is no longer an option for businesses to pursue profit at the expense of workers, communities and the environment. 💰Think Tank Demos recently demonstrated that a change to company law could add £149bn to the UK economy. Not bad. 🌎 So if you’re a B Corp or just beginning your journey towards better business, join the campaign for a legal commitment to people and the planet to become the norm within all UK business. So let’s act! The link to sign up your company is below ⤵️ https://lnkd.in/gBqhbVx We can’t think of a better way to mark the end of #BCorpMonth 2024! B Lab UK

#Governance. The least glamorous of B Corp’s impact areas, and too often overlooked when it comes to communicating ESG. 📣 But we want to give a shout out to good governance, because it’s where we see some of the most exciting breakthroughs by businesses that prioritise people and planet. 🍫 Tony's Chocolonely created a Mission Lock, which future-proofs their mission for good, regardless of shareholder structure. This legal change means they’ll always stay laser focused on eradicating child and illegal labor from the chocolate industry. 🌳 Faith In Nature, true to their name, have become the first company in the world to give nature a voice and a vote by appointing nature to their board. Best of all, they’ve been transparent about their process, providing the “legal low-down” on how to do it. We’re sure they won’t be the last. 👩⚖️ Bates Wells were not only the first law firm in the UK to become B Corp Certified, but they also supported B Lab UK a decade ago with the design of the B Corp legal requirement: that’s the commitment every B Corp makes to balance people and planet alongside profit. 🎉 To celebrate #BCorpMonth, we’ve been spotlighting some of the most progressive brands and businesses on the planet. March may be over, but we’ll never stop marching on when it comes to better business. 🌱 Can we leave the planet in mint condition? Peppermint certainly has a part to play. 📣 Something special happened recently at #Nuevo, and it’s too good (and too tasty) not to share. We simultaneously became a certified B Corp AND completed our first project for a B Corp client: 👋 Say hello to Summerdown 🌳 A sumptuous brand for the senses, Summerdown grows, harvests and distils its signature Black Mitcham peppermint on a future-focused farm in Hampshire, to serve up a refreshing range of chocolates, teas and treats. So what better way to celebrate #BCorpMonth together than to treat the whole team to some peppermint tea and a matching mug? The tea itself has Fair to Nature certification - the RSPB standard for nature positive products. This means more than 1⃣0⃣% of the farm is managed as habitats for wildlife, creating space for nature to thrive. 🐝 This aligns with the wider regenerative vision for Summerdown, with land stewardship practices that secure soil health and protect pollinators. 💪 After supporting Jo Colman and the team to create a sustainability strategy and supplier standards for Summerdown, we’re blown away by the brand’s potential to bring people and nature together. 🛍 Now, be sure to bag yourself some peppermint products before the Nuevo team buys up all the stock! Not all B Corps are clean. 🙌 We were reminded of the above yesterday, after joining a celebration for B Corps in the media, followed by a Clean Creatives meet and greet. We are one of 176 UK-based B Corps in media, and one of 860 agencies around the world aligned with Clean Creatives. Both are powerful movements that bring together businesses who recognise the urgent need to change how we do business. 🌎 B Corps balance people and planet alongside profit. Clean Creatives pledge signers say no to using their talents to amplify the fossil fuel industry. This can impact your profit. 💡But as Adrian Ma, Founder of Fanclub PR (a B Corp!) pointed out, the fast growth you sacrifice by only supporting clients that match your values, you’ll gain back through more loyal employees and clients committed to your cause. 💡We also heard from Julie Richards, Director of Sustainability at The Guardian (a B Corp!). Julie advised the audience to be clear on what brands you will and won’t work with, and to go public with your parameters. So, for those in the back: #Nuevo will never work with the fossil fuel industry. We’ll focus our efforts on transforming our industry into a force for good. An impossible mission without the momentum of movements like B Corp and Clean Creatives. 🗓 To celebrate #BCorpMonth, we are spotlighting some of the most progressive brands on the planet. 💪 This time we’re championing three B Corp leaders we’ve crossed paths with at recent events, where they shared hard-earned wisdom about how to bring about better business. So here we go ⤵️ 🫐 Cotswold Fayre, a certified B Corporation We were fortunate enough to share a stage with Cotswold Fayre founder and B Corp legend Paul Hargreaves, who shared insights on the importance of prioritising people and the planet before profit, powered by compassionate leadership. 🫒 The Jamie Oliver Group The group aims to halve childhood obesity by 2030. Alison Corfield, Head of Social Impact and Sustainability, reminded us of the transformative impact of business when it uses its influence as a force for good. Be bold and brave with your targets and creative solutions will follow. 🧣The White Company We clapped as hard as we could when we heard that this brand has just secured B Corp Certification. How timely for B Corp Month! Congratulations to Head of Ethics and Sustainability Cat Lee and the whole team. We’re still marching on! Follow along for our final round of B Corps to watch next week. Who else should we feature? Tag some of your favourite B Corp brands and businesses in the comments section below ⤵️ #BCorpMonth #ReinventingBusiness #ThisWayForward #MarchOn B Lab B Lab UK

📣 B Corp Month is here, and the spotlight on #diversity, #equality and #inclusion (DE&I) is brighter than ever, especially for us in the #creative driving seat! As a veteran-founded B Corp business, we've got #DE&I woven into our agency's DNA. Why? Because we know that our team's unique perspectives and backgrounds are the magic sauce that makes our creativity tick! Every person brings something special to the table. It’s a recipe for creating a culture of belonging and innovation. So, how do we make the magic happen❓ ➡️ Intentional inclusion: As a small business, we all know each other, but you can’t leave an inclusive culture to chance. In line with B Corp best practice, we take steps to make our hiring process as progressive as possible. ➡️ Awareness raising: We fight unconscious bias with the power of knowledge, offering training to keep DE&I top of mind for our team. Our sustainability team often sources success stories to keep us inspired. ➡️ Putting policy into practice: Equality isn’t just a policy that sits on a shelf. It’s about making sure everyone feels safe to be themselves everyday. We seek to treat everyone equally and give everyone a voice – at every level in the business. ➡️ Client collaboration: In our projects, we champion diversity in representation, ensuring the content we create resonates with everyone. We also aim to work with like-minded suppliers and collaborators, creating a ripple effect of positive change in the industry. 👥 DE&I is a continuous journey, demanding constant effort, conversation, flexibility, and a genuine desire to make a difference. But by embracing these challenges, we don't just enrich our workplace, we contribute to a more inclusive and equitable creative place for everyone. #BCorpMonth #ReinventingBusiness #ThisWayForward #MarchOn B Lab B Lab UK

🌟 To celebrate #BCorpMonth, we are spotlighting some of the most progressive brands on the planet. 📣 This time we’re championing three of our local favs, who also started out on the UK’s South West Coast: Finisterre 👕 The first outdoor clothing company in the UK to become B Corp certified, our Strategy Director James applauds the brand’s bold positioning as a cold water surfing brand. For International Women’s Day last Friday, Finisterre shared that their £5,000 Women of the Sea Film Fund is open for female filmmakers. We think this brand deserves an oscar for supporting (rather than selling to) women! They even offer wetsuit rentals making their plant-based wetsuits more accessible to those looking to dip their toe in the water. Jimmy's Iced Coffee ❄️☕️ Some say money makes the world go round, but anyone that’s tried Jimmy’s knows that it’s coffee. Specifically, Rainforest Alliance certified iced coffee, in the UK’s first resealable and recyclable BottleCan™. Many of our team are proudly powered by Jimmy’s, so we’ve all got our eye on their new product launch on Monday! Organix Brands Ltd - A BCorp Company 🥕👶 Our Sustainability Manager Caitlin Hicks recently spotted a colourful #BCorpMonth mural in Organix Bournemouth HQ window. Organix’s sustainability mission is to create food for little one's that's not only good for them but good for the planet too. We know that what’s good for the planet, is good for young people’s future. We love that a forward-thinking female-founded business, which started over three decades ago with the planet in mind, continues to reassure parents around the world with their no junk promise. ---------------------------------------------------------- ✍️ We'll be highlighting more businesses in the next few weeks, so follow along to see who else made our shortlist of brands bringing about long term change. 🌟 Today we wanted to shine a light on three women we are incredibly grateful to have on our team. 🌍 Caitlin Hicks is Nuevo’s resident sustainability nerd (her words!). She has dedicated her career to exploring how business can be a force for good in the world. She helped ensure Nuevo attained our B Corp status. She pushes us to make better decisions every day. She has boundless, positive energy and we love her. 🎥 Nina Collins makes our production team tick. She’s a brilliant producer, manager, organiser, photographer... the list goes on. She can make any shoot happen, often with seemingly impossible timelines. She is also willing to appear as an extra in any scenes that need it! She’s a trooper and a key part of the team at Nuevo. 💷 Suzy Charman is our much valued finance manager. She makes the numbers work. She’s a calming, reassuring influence whilst the rest of us flap around doing our thing. She’s always reliable, she’s upbeat and we’re very lucky to have her. Power to them and all the #women helping to make positive change in the world. #IWD #Nuevo #Colleagues #DreamTeam B Lab B Lab UK

🌿 Seaweed sachets, seizing fast fashion at the border, and rewriting the rules for businesses were just some of the show-stopping suggestions at our first week of #BCorpMonth events. With 1⃣0⃣ phenomenal panellists across two events we’ve extracted our top three insights from each below. 🤝 First up we visited B Corp law firm Bates Wells for their #event with a fashion focus: 👥 Safia Minney, MBE FRSA, Founder of Fashion Declares made clear that we must transition the entire fashion and textile industry. She cited the Cornell University report with Schroders, showing how the profit margins of fast fashion companies will be eroded by the effects of extreme heat. 👥 Kresse Wesling CBE, co-founder of Elvis & Kresse explained that while new EU Ecocide laws are great news for nature, it doesn’t solve social challenges. What’s needed is a fundamental change to core business law. 👥 Thea Cooper from modern slavery charity Unseen UK urged businesses to consider the exploitative nature of profit on people, not just planet: modern slavery must go beyond a statement on a website. It’s about transforming livelihoods, not ticking boxes. Next we went to B Corp workspace, Uncommon: Christina Brooks, CEO of Ruebik and inclusion activist shared how when you recognise you’re part of the problem, B Corp provides a framework to help you build the business you want to see in the world. Lucy Squires, Marketing Director at allplants | B Corp™, the chef-prepared, vegan meal company, attributed the huge leap in their B Corp score following their recent re-certification to two factors: 1⃣ Enthusiasm: of the whole team, who have embedded B Corp into their everyday. 2⃣ Evidence: of the positive effects of encouraging customers to substitute meat and dairy for plants, activating an Impact Business Model. Finally, James Wild, co-founder of Feragaia, Scotland's first distilled alcohol-free spirit, knew he wanted the business to be a B Corp before they began. That’s the spirit! Did you attend these events? What did you take away? And are there any others we shouldn’t miss? 💪 Oliver Scutt, Magda Al-Nugaidi, Kyle Soo, Aisling Connaughton #BCorpMonth #ReinventingBusiness #ThisWayForward #MarchOn
