First, it’s important to know that no “type” of person becomes addicted. People can face addiction no matter their age, where they live, how much money they have, or what they look like. . There are many signs that someone is addicted – one very common and critically important sign is that the individual continues to use drugs even though it’s harming their physical health, performance at school or work, and relationships. They feel like they can’t stop using drugs - no matter the cost. . Other signs you might see in someone you’re concerned about: . Hanging out with different friends than usual. . Not caring about their appearance. . Moodiness, anger, irritability, defensiveness, and/or periods of depression or euphoria. . Isolation. . Lower grades in school or low performance at work. . Missing or skipping school, classes, or work. . Losing interest in favorite activities. . Getting in trouble in school or with the law. . Developing poor eating or sleeping habits. . Developing problems with family members, co-workers, and friends. . Congratulations to the United States Space Force for hosting the inaugural #STARCOM Partnership Days event in Reston, VA. The two-day event featured valuable presentations and panel discussions focused on Education, Training, and Professional Development. The one-on-one government sessions provided industry and academia with opportunities to share their technologies, innovations, and ideas directly with STARCOM. I appreciate how the officers, enlisted personnel, and civilian Guardians made themselves available before, during, and after the presentations to engage with attendees. I am especially excited for my portfolio companies that shared their inspiring stories, passions, pitches, and successes with STARCOM. I am very proud of the entire team. I want to give a special shout-out to Mr. Darren Buck ("Shades"), Executive Director and Deputy Commander of US Space Force Delta 1 (STARCOM), and Major General Tim Sejba, for taking the time to meet with academia and the companies. Thank you, Dr. Mehmed Ali, for all the planning and coordination. This was a fantastic event! weThink, inc. Double A Labs WeBe Life Forward Edge-AI Inflo Gumption #SKYPAD

Stopping Stigma Around Mental Health . People who live with mental health challenges are often blamed for their situation. They are called names. Their symptoms are often dismissed and they are told they could control their challenge “if they only tried.” They are sometimes discriminated against, often with no recourse. The stigma associated with mental health is universal and powerful. . Stigma causes people to feel ashamed for something that is out of their control. Worst of all, stigma prevents people from seeking the help they deserve and need. . Seven Things You Can Do to Reduce Stigma . 1. Know the facts. Educate yourself about mental health challenges and mental illness including substance use disorders. . 2. Be aware of your attitudes and behaviour. Examine your own possible judgmental thinking which may be reinforced by upbringing and society. . 3. Choose your words carefully. The way we speak can affect the attitudes of others. . 4. Educate others. Pass on facts and positive attitudes. Challenge myths and stereotypes. . 5. Focus on the positive. Mental health challenges and mental illness, including addictions, are only part of anyone’s bigger story. . 6. Support people. Treat everyone with dignity and respect; offer support and encouragement. . 7. Include everyone. It's against the law to deny jobs or services to anyone with these challenges. . If you or someone you know needs #Help. Reach out to join our online community, Heal with Hope: Naija Community at https://lnkd.in/dcGcJvSa . HELPLINE NIGERIA: NDLEA English, Pidgin, Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo. Importantly, the helpline is open 24/7. How does peer support help our mental health? . Peer support helps our mental health by providing a non-clinical, supportive resource so individuals with similar experiences of mental health challenges can share their stories, validate each other's feelings, and gain practical guidance from others who have successfully navigated similar situations. Peer support fosters a sense of connection, hope, and empowerment to improve well-being and help during the recovery journey - offering understanding and acceptance that might not be readily available elsewhere. . By sharing their own lived experience and practical guidance, individuals providing peer support help people develop their own goals, create strategies for self-empowerment, and take concrete steps towards building fulfilling, self-determined lives. . If you or someone you know needs #Help. Reach out to join our online community, Heal with Hope: Naija Community at https://lnkd.in/dcGcJvSa . SURPIN Helpline Nigeria: A 24-hour hotline 080 0078 7746 . . #healwithhope #Save9jaFamilies #gethelphere #peersupporthelps #GetHelpNow #nigeria #surpin #help

Starting a self-care routine needn’t be difficult. As a matter of fact, it can be fun! If you already have a routine, please share it below in the comments. If you’re just getting started, here are steps you can take to create a self-care routine: . Consider different types of self-care – and specific practices – that might be best for you: physical, psychological, emotional, social, professional, environmental, spiritual, or financial. . Make time for sleep: Most people need eight hours of sleep per night for good health. . Exercise: Regular exercise, like walking, can improve your mood and health. . Eat well: Eat healthy meals and stay hydrated. . Practice mindfulness: Meditation can help you clear your mind and feel more balanced. . Read: Reading can stimulate your curiosity or provide escapism. . Be creative: Working with your hands can reduce anxiety and promote a feeling of calm. . Connect with others: Set aside time to call or video chat with friends and family. . Take a break from social media: Unfollow or mute accounts that make you feel worse. . Journal: Journaling can help you identify barriers to self-care. . And remember to start small - choose one or two simple things to add to your morning routine as you add more self-care to your life! . If you or someone you know needs #Help.
