More great reporting about pesticides in cannabis by Alex Halperin! https://lnkd.in/eyfTz4BB This follows up on the recent WeedWeek/Los Angeles Times exposé, which found, among other things, a STIIIZY vape cart loaded with pymetrozine. Here, Alex writes about the continued presence of Stiiizy products in the marketplace, and especially in Catalyst Cannabis Co. stores. Personally, I've enjoyed the approach that Elliot Lewis has taken, testing a bunch of products off his shelves and making safety a part of his marketing. Broadly speaking, this is behavior I would like to see. I hope he's sincere. I hope he's honest and accurate when he claims to be working with Stiiizy on clean vapes. I got to talk to Alex briefly as he prepared this story, and shared with him my particular concern about pymetrozine. It's listed as a likely carcinogen by the EPA (https://lnkd.in/eTqE4VFA). I believe that this is a chemical which is especially dangerous to inhale in any quantity. Pymetrozine is an acute inhalation hazard, which means that one can get immediately sick from inhaling too much of it. It is known that frequent exposures to quantities of such compounds too low to induce immediate sickness may lead to cancer and other lung ailments. Pymetrozine is not on the list of pesticides screened in cannabis products in either California or Massachusetts. It should be.

Many thanks to Alex Halperin and WeedWeek for being the first to publish on this massively impactful, yet opaque legislative proposal from the California Governor's Office to integrate hemp into the cannabis supply chain. There are a lot of affected stakeholder groups and for those that have seen this proposal, which is yet to be public, not a lot of agreement. https://lnkd.in/gYCXAUaa

ANOTHER cannabis testing lab bites the dust... WeedWeek breaks another story relating to CA pesticide scandal. This time, California Cannabis Testing Labs (CCTL) has been shut down by the DCC with immediate effect. "Some of the allegations date back to a February 2022 site visit, when lab staff acknowledged falsified records, disregard for company procedures and other breaches." - WeedWeek. NOT a good look at all right now. Cannabis industry: — How bad do you think the lab problem is? — How do we start rebuilding consumer trust? — What can brands, retailers, manufacturers and growers do to ensure that our products aren't harmful to the consumer?? I'd love to hear what you all think and how WE, as an industry, can collectively bounce back from these scandals.
