🎙️The ‘’Thematic Seminar – Framing The Community Of Practice’’ held by the Department of Architecture – Roma Tre University was a key milestone in the launch of our Community of Practice.   🌱 During these inspiring days, valuable contributions were made by partners, associate partners, stakeholders, and guest speakers, who shared their insights, experiences, and perspectives on the challenges and opportunities ahead.   🔍 We focused on the objectives of the community, the tools that will be utilized, and how to communicate the We Go Coop policy paper on Wetland Contracts, which will be a key output of the project. This document will highlight the multifunctionality of this tool in addressing the challenges posed by European and global policies.   🌍 Rome has inspired us and reinforced our collective commitment. We are dedicated to achieving our goals of establishing collaborative governance to provide wetlands with a more innovative and sustainable future. 🌿 🌊 WE GO COOP 1st Thematic seminar – Framing the community of practice ! MedPAN is thrilled to attend the first thematic seminar of the Interreg Euro-MED WE GO COOP project, taking place in a hybrid format in Rome (Italy) and online on January 28-29, 2025 ! Over the two-day seminar, participants are engaged in plenary sessions, roundtable discussions, and interactive workshops addressing key topics such as Wetland Contracts, a collaborative governance tool aimed at the conservation, sustainable development and landscape enhancement of wetland areas. Throughout this event, experts, institutions, and stakeholders are discussing and laying the groundwork for a Community of Practice around this tool ! 📈 Development of drought indicators in Pilot Test Areas by Germ of Life. Droughts are one of the most complex of all natural hazards to analyse and understand because they have a wide-range of cascading impacts that may be caused or exacerbated by different drought aspects or other external factors (i.e. precipitation deficits (or absence of extreme rainfall events); actual and potential evapotranspiration and driving variables; soil moisture deficits and groundwater). 🦚 We investigate ‘droughts’ that can account for the impact of drought on vegetation growth and productivity in relation to meteorological conditions and soil water availability. This corresponds most closely to the definition of ‘agro-meteorological droughts’ considering both the impact of rain deficiency and the low soil water availability on vegetation status and productivity. 📡 In the Germ of Life project we focus on a subset of vegetation indices used in scientific literature for quantifying vegetation status, growth and productivity. At the Interreg Euro-MED WE GO COOP meeting “Framing the Community of Practice for Mediterranean Wetland Contracts” in Rome, Chris Rostron and Giancarlo Gusmaroli from MedWet, talked about the role of the Convention on Wetlands and MedWet as a Ramsar Regional Initiative in governance, and how they provide tools at the global, regional and local level to support the delivery of wetland restoration and protection. #WorldWetlandsDay #RestoreWetlands

🌊 Happy #WorldWetlandsDay! 🌎 Today we want to stress the key importance of protecting wetlands for our common future and celebrate the achievements of two of our Thematic Projects in this line. During this year, Wetland4Change has already engaged more than 120 people from their Spanish, Greek and Bulgarian pilot areas to promote sustainable wetland management practices that enhance their potential for carbon sequestration and flood regulation. Significant analytical and mapping efforts are ongoing to develop the methodologies and tools that will be implemented on-site. Meanwhile, Interreg Euro-MED WE GO COOP has already kicked off and framed a Community of Practice for Mediterranean Wetland Contracts. It will be a collaborative space where experts, managers, institutions, and key stakeholders share their knowledge and lessons learnt on sound environmental governance tools, such as wetland contracts, to protect and sustainably manage wetlands.
