Mask-wearing is a big part of the Halloween experience, but when it comes right down to it, many of us wear masks every single day. And those masks can often cloud our humanity, filtering disproportionately our own belief systems. In trying to align with people and policies and directives and practices we may not wholly support, are we, in fact, losing our individual authenticity? Masks obscure our vision, sometimes framing other people or situations in a way that may or may not be the true image beyond the surface. There is a time and a place for masks but consider if you have sacrificed your integrity to protect yourself and, if so, is it working? We are all prone to imposter syndrome at times, but finding strength in transparency, vulnerability, and understanding the value of sonder is an ongoing exercise requiring much. However, the result could be the gift to yourself of becoming a better human, to yourself, and to those around you.
