A shared vision for the future of the former Atlanta Medical Center campus will begin to take shape in the coming weeks. The Integral Group will lead the development, guided by a land-use plan unanimously approved by the Atlanta City Council with support from Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens and extensive community input. Wellstar chose The Integral Group, a nationally recognized, Atlanta-based firm because it specializes in creating spaces that reflect the needs, character, and history of their community. The plan envisions a diverse, mixed-use neighborhood that includes residential properties, affordable housing, community and public green space, neighborhood-level retail, new street access, commercial uses, and health and well-being resources. The revitalization will take place in phases over several years, with community input at every stage. What others are saying: “Through direct engagement with the Old Fourth Ward and surrounding stakeholders, we now have an opportunity to create an inclusive, forward-looking and thriving new development that meets the community’s needs for affordable housing, green space and safe streets—while maintaining some medical use and retaining the neighborhood’s unique character.” – Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens “This is a long-awaited new beginning for the Old Fourth Ward community. These properties have enormous potential to meet our city’s and the neighborhood’s need for more dense, mixed-use development, including, hopefully, new housing.” – Atlanta City Councilor Amir Farokhi “We believe that transforming a community requires more than just development—it requires a commitment to understanding and addressing the core needs of the people who live there.” – Egbert Perry, chairman of The Integral Group “This is a vital investment in the growth and advancement of this historic neighborhood for the betterment of all who live here. We are ready to move ahead quickly with the next steps for this site and we are eager to work together throughout all phases of this project.” – Tom Boyle, president of Old Fourth Ward Neighborhood Association For more information: http://spr.ly/6042qXr06 Visual: Rendering image provided by Integral

The Lutzie 43 Foundation, in partnership with the Georgia Department of Transportation, and the Wellstar trauma team successfully hosted Safe Driving Summits at Marietta and Alpharetta High Schools. Keynote speaker Mike Lutzenkirchen shared his personal journey following the tragic loss of his son, Philip, to a distracted driving incident. Partnering with local EMS agencies, MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service in Marietta and American Medical Response in Alpharetta, the trauma team gave students firsthand insights into the real consequences of unsafe driving without a seatbelt. The rehabilitation services team, alongside Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, demonstrated rehab and recovery after injury. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making this event impactful. In July 2021, Eric Janeau was diagnosed with a rare form of Stage IV bile duct cancer. The only cure was surgery, but Eric's tumor was initially too large to be removed. With a survival rate of just 1%, Eric was given four to six months to live without response to treatment. In partnership with Oncologist Dr. Carmen Klass, Eric underwent 12 rounds of chemotherapy, shrinking the tumor until it was small enough for surgery. He has now been cancer-free for two years. See FOX 5 Atlanta, WAGA-TV coverage of Eric's story at http://spr.ly/6042qKMKn.
