Remembering Curt Manatt. We are greatly saddened to share that Curt Manatt, family, friend, and valued colleague, passed away earlier this week. We are honored and humbled to announce a major milestone in Wendling's journey of growth and innovation. Wendling has officially acquired the assets of Gehrke Quarries, Inc. This acquisition marks a significant step forward in enhancing our capabilities and expanding our market presence in central Iowa. We are committed to a seamless transition for our customers, employees, and all stakeholders. Our goal is to not only build on the strong foundation that Gehrke Quarries has established but also to honor the rich legacy and traditions that have defined their success over the years. For decades, Gehrke Quarries has been a trusted name in the community, known for their commitment to quality, integrity, hard work, and service. We are committed to carry forward these values and continue their tradition of excellence. We recognize the trust that the Gehrke family has placed in us, and are dedicated to upholding those standards that have made their business such a success. Our new location, just south of Eldora, IA in Hardin County, will maintain the name Gehrke Quarry to honor the legacy of the previous operator. Finally, a huge thank you to our incredible team members who played a key role in making this acquisition possible. Your hard work and dedication are truly appreciated! We are also grateful to the MFB board for their unwavering support of our strategic growth initiatives.
Wendling had a nice opportunity to work with Manatts Eastern Iowa asphalt division in DeWitt on 6th Ave. The project was an asphalt job with a new sewer and water replacement. We were able to use our Greenstone recycled concrete products on the project. The recycled concrete will be placed under the HMA paving. This project is taking 30,000 tons of recycled concrete from Behr Quarry. It is great to see our Greenstone recycled materials being utilized on many construction projects, highlighting our commitment to sustainability!
In order to shoot, blast, and crush rock, several carefully planned steps are involved to insure efficiency and safety. Our production drilling team develops a detailed plan that includes drill patterns, blast design, and safety protocols. Once the holes are drilled, they are loaded with explosives to blast the rock. After drilling and blasting, the rock is ready to be crushed into several high-quality products! Our expert drilling operators can handle any project from a few hundred feet of drilling to over 100,000.

Manatt's Annual Summer Outing at Adventureland is all about celebrating our incredible employees and their families! We had a fantastic day filled with rides, games, and exciting prizes. It was a great day to relax, have fun, and show appreciation to our dedicated team and their families. Thank you to the amazing people who make Manatt's a great place to work! Together, we will continue to build a brighter future and achieve even greater heights.
♻ Recyled Products ♻ We've mentioned 50/50 blends in some of our previous posts, but did you know that we are able to blend recycled asphalt and recycled concrete together to make a 50/50 Modified Subbase product. This product can be used as subbase material for multiple sized projects such as: - highways - city streets - parking lots - farm roads - building pads for shops/barns - & more! Check out the video below to check out the process in action.

We were off to the races this last weekend at the @iowaspeedway for the first-ever NASCAR Cup Series to be held in Iowa! The days were filled with excitement as we watched the drivers take to the track. It was an incredible experience to witness history in the making. This event was our way of saying a heartfelt thank you to our valued customers and dedicated employees. Your trust and support drive our success, and we are incredibly grateful for your partnership. We hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did! We also want to thank Wending, L.L. Pelling, Norris Asphalt, and Douds Stone for participating. We couldn't have done it without you!
We had the opportunity to host Springville 1st graders at Bowser Quarry for a field trip. Despite most of the kids living in Springville, many visited the quarry for the first time and were very excited. We managed to avoid the rain, and all 40 first graders were buzzing with anticipation on the big yellow school bus. First, we discussed the importance of safety and the measures we take to protect workers, visitors, the neighborhood, and the environment. We explained that quarries are places where rocks are extracted from the earth and that large rocks are made into smaller ones. We showed them different types of rocks and explained how the products are used in everyday life. The trip's highlight was watching the large machines in action. The children were fascinated by the enormous equipment, and their eyes widened as a John Deere haul truck came by for an up-close view. We explained how these machines work and their vital role in the quarry. Next, their geology skills were tested! The kids were challenged to search the small rock piles and see if they could find a shiny or interesting rock. Lastly, we headed back through the tunnel and stopped for a quick photo so the kids could show their parents that they drove through a tunnel that day. Overall, the kids had a great time, and we're delighted to continue this tradition of hosting the Springville students.
