This application was a homerun for the manufacturer, who was looking for a high-mix, high-variety, and high-volume indexing solution to perform rapid single-part changeover. Because this water pump assembly and test machine was designed with manufacturability and automation in mind, our customer’s production process was transformed with this application’s adaptability for multiple SKUs. Each station exerts between 60-100 kN (13,500-22,500 lbs.) of force, featuring servo-actuated positioning tables and CNC-style automatic tool changers for unmatched efficiency. Key Features of the Automatic Transmission Assembly Solution: Low-Profile Conveyor System: Independently powered pallets with servo lift and rotate functions ensure precise part positioning for manual and automatic operations. Double-Dial Promess® Machine: Streamlined gear shaft handling with a turret-style tool changer, allowing efficient pressing at a single station. Wes-Tech’s customer initially proposed a system with 12 servo press stations, resulting in low productivity and cycle times of 10 minutes per part. By integrating operations into 4 semi-automatic press stations, Wes-Tech engineers achieved remarkable improvements: Reduced Cycle Time: Dramatically decreased production time.
