“Milk for Bones." Our assisted living residents had the opportunity to learn some fun facts about milk and its importance for our bone health, as well as sample different types of milk. We had a great time coming together as a community to enhance our understanding of nutrition while having fun. Sharing these experiences not only fosters knowledge about healthy choices but also strengthens our bonds we enjoyed learning and discovering together. 🦴🥛💪 #milkforhealth #CaringTogether #thewesleyan #youmakeitmatter

This month, let’s take action to raise awareness about fire safety and protect our homes and families.   Did you know? According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, in 2016, there were 88 workplace fire fatalities. While that’s an improvement from 2015, ANY number is too high. Fire safety is everyone’s responsibility!   At The Wesleyan, we’re committed to keeping our residence safe. We change our residents smoke detector batteries every six months and conduct bi-annual fire drills for our residents.   So, what are you doing to ensure safety? Here are some suggested steps:   **Top 5 Rules for Preventing Fires:** 1) Keep flammable materials away from heat sources. 2) Inspect your electrical cords and appliances for damage. 3) Make sure you have a working fire extinguisher in your home. 4) Plan and practice a fire escape route. 5) Install smoke detectors and test them regularly. #firesafety #firepreventionmonth #caringtogether #thewesleyan #youmakeitmatter

Making it Matter: Keion Cannady, Housekeeper Celebrating 5 Years of Service A Journey of Dedication at The Wesleyan Keion Cannady has been a dedicated team member at The Wesleyan since October 8, 2019, and is set to celebrate his 5-year work anniversary — a milestone he proudly highlights! Starting his journey in housekeeping, Keion began his career at The Wesleyan’s Scenic location before moving to the Skilled Nursing building (WSN). Earlier this year, in February 2024, he made the transition to Independent Living (IL), where his positive energy and commitment continue to shine. From Job to Purpose When Keion first joined The Wesleyan, it was just a job to him. But it didn’t take long for him to discover the deeper meaning behind his work. “I quickly saw the beauty of the service I was providing to our residents,” Keion says. The gratitude and appreciation the residents showed him daily transformed what began as a job into a heartfelt service. This realization helped him find a greater purpose in his role, driven by the connections he made with the people he serves. A Culture That Matters Keion enthusiastically embraces The Wesleyan’s culture, describing himself as “obsessed” with the environment. He finds fulfillment in the small details and takes pride in his work, knowing that the residents and his teammates value the effort he puts in. It’s the meaningful relationships Keion has built with both residents and coworkers that fuel his passion. “The work I do feels important,” he says, reflecting on how those bonds make him feel appreciated every day. Seeing Through Residents’ Eyes For Keion, one of the most transformative moments was when he began to see things from the residents’ perspective. By imagining himself in their shoes, he better understands their needs and concerns. Spending time with residents, offering a smile, listening when they need a friend or sharing an encouraging word — these small acts of kindness are what keep him going. They’re what make his work not just a job, but a rewarding experience. A Legacy of Care Keion’s journey at The Wesleyan has a personal touch as well — his mother once worked for the organization and encouraged him to follow in her footsteps. Though his mother has since moved on to other ventures, Keion treasures the time they spend together every Sunday, going for drives, shopping and enjoying lunch. His story is truly an inspiration, one of family, dedication and a deep connection to the people and values of The Wesleyan. #makingitmatter #caringtogether #thewesleyan #youmakeitmatter

Texas is home to many wonderful veterans, and The Wesleyan is proud to welcome so many of them into our community. Many of our teammates and leaders also come from military families or are veterans themselves, making Veterans Day a deeply meaningful observance for us.   We invite you to join The Wesleyan in honoring someone special in your life—whether they are a veteran, reservist, first responder, or part of a K9 or Equestrian unit. You can do this by purchasing a flag or making a donation for the Georgetown Field of Honor®.   Your purchase or contribution will not only support our beloved veterans but will also help raise funds for The Wesleyan! Each 3’ × 5’ U.S. flag will proudly fly at the Georgetown Field of Honor throughout Veterans Day week, from Saturday, November 9 to Sunday, November 17. You can even add a tag with your dedication, and the flag is yours to keep after the event.   Click the link below to show your gratitude and help us honor our heroes. Thank you for being a part of this special tribute! https://lnkd.in/gcR84mPN #georgetowntx #fieldofhonor #flags #veteransday #caringtogether #thewesleyan #youmakeitmatter
