About us
Western States Cat is the authorized Caterpillar Dealer for Idaho, eastern Washington and Oregon, western Montana and part of Wyoming. We have over 70 years of experience serving logging, mining and construction industries. Winner of numerous national honors, we achieved Caterpillar’s Gold Level Dealer Excellence Award multiple times. Stability, financial strength, fast response to market needs and a focus on customer support have made Western States Cat a nationally respected company. Our roots began in the 1930’s as Western Equipment, selling machinery, tools and general supplies to contractors in the Northwest and Intermountain regions. In 1956, Western Equipment became the authorized Caterpillar dealer for southern Idaho and eastern Wyoming. Growth came rapidly, and in 1985 Western Equipment combined with a sister dealership covering northern Idaho and eastern Washington to form a single company. The new name, Western States Equipment Company, more accurately described the growing service territory. Western States Equipment has a proud history of acquisition and growth. What began as four service branches has grown into a much larger, award-winning organization. The company now covers an area over 191,000 square miles with 17 general line and truck engine branches, and 15 Cat® Rental Stores.

Meet Parker, an Idaho student headed to the SkillsUSA Championships in Atlanta next week! After winning the state competition, Parker worked with the Western States team in Pocatello to practice operating CTLs, compact wheel loaders, articulated trucks, mini excavators, and medium wheel loaders using payload. In addition to his operating skills, Parker will be required to demonstrate machine walk-arounds and component identification at the competition. We're thrilled to have had the chance to help Parker prepare for the SkillsUSA Championships, and we look forward to cheering him on! Best of luck!

In honor of Father's Day, we want to reshare a few photos of this beautiful Kenworth with an amazing story: After spending most of its life as a logging truck near Council, ID, this 1977 Kenworth was purchased by John Stevenson in 2014 as a Father's Day gift for his dad, Tom. The father-son team tackled the total frame-off restoration together and brought the truck back to its original glory-- including the original 3408 Cat engine. While Tom has since passed away, John still maintains the Kenworth and keeps his dad's legacy alive by showcasing the truck at events across the country. A special thank you to John and his family for trusting us with such a special truck, and for sharing its story with us!
