About us
The Westmorland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board (WIB) is a business, education, and community board that is empowered to lead workforce development activities in Fayette and Westmoreland counties. The Westmoreland-Fayette WIB has defined its mission to be to lead the workforce development activities in the area’s communities in order to help individuals attain the skills necessary for viable employment and to help employers become competitive in the global economy. This WIB wants to develop and maintain an organization to promote and further effective education and training for family-sustaining jobs for the people of Fayette and Westmoreland counties. The Westmoreland-Fayette WIB will also be responsive to the needs of the community by building and enhancing the career development and workforce training system. Our WIB will work to affect change to allow federal funding to be channeled to the areas of greatest need. As a leading change agent for workforce development, the Westmoreland-Fayette WIB’s mission is to identity and address gaps in the workforce resources of the counties it serves and to build relationships with employers, educators, economic development communities, and/or elected officials in order to facilitate a cooperative effort to meet these needs. On Wednesday, October 30th, we partnered with Central Westmoreland CTC to host "Evolving Education: Meeting Manufacturing Needs Through CTC Programs," where leaders came together to discuss current industry challenges, best practices in recruitment, and a variety of related topics. During the panel discussion, presenters and industry partners explored topics like internships, apprenticeships, and the essential skills students gain at CTCs, emphasizing the importance of work-based experiences and industry credentials. We had a fantastic day yesterday at our "Evolving Education: Meeting Healthcare Needs through CTC Programs" event! Our panel included representatives from the Northern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center, the Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center, and the Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center, as well as the Fayette County Career and Technical Institute and the Connellsville Area CTC. Presenters discussed internships, work-based experiences, certifications, cross-curricular education, and the challenges facing the healthcare sector. Our industry partners had the opportunity to connect and and voice their need for support through the CTCs and the WFWIB. Thank you to our presenters and all participants. Oh, the places you’ll go! 🎈 Yesterday for Day 2 of our Teacher in the Workplace (TIW) Program, our group of educators toured the Northern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center (CTC), Central Westmoreland Career and Technology Center, and Eastern Westmoreland Career and Technology Center. They also learned about different career pathways and gained hands-on experience through activities held by different companies across Westmoreland. We’d like to thank each of the CTC’s and companies for their participation in Day 2 of our TIW program.
