Westlake Epoxy’s participation in Brenntag’s booth at the LACS was very successful! Customers were interested in the AQUAREOUS™ System for flooring and EPIKURE™ Curing Agent 8546-W-55 for dispersing liquid epoxy resin; the Moisture Vapor Suppression System (MVSS) for Class 1 vapor barriers; and the Deep Pour System for thicker, ultra-clear, lower yellowing applications. Many good conversations about Bis-F epoxy resin (e.g., EPON™ Resin 862) - based systems for acid resistance with recommended curing agents; as well as strong interest in standard Bis-A epoxy resins, such as EPION Resin 828, which has been an industry benchmark since the 1940s. Today, we're shining the spotlight on Alessandra Crippa, a bright Material Science engineering student from the University of Maryland, who has been immersing herself in the research and development department at our Samarate, Italy site for the past two months. Alessandra shared some insights into her journey with us: "Working in the R&D department at Westlake Compounds Italy has been an enlightening experience. As a student engrossed in mathematics, physics, and chemistry, it's not every day I get to apply my academic knowledge in the private sector. This opportunity has been invaluable. I've learned to operate professional machinery and see projects through from inception to final application. The hands-on experience of conducting tests independently and engaging in practical learning has made me feel like an integral part of the research team. Every day brings new tasks and learning opportunities, keeping the spark of curiosity alive and banishing boredom entirely. One of the most enriching aspects of my stay has been understanding the differences between working cultures in the U.S. and Italy. As I prepare to return home, I carry with me a certainty that fuels my passion - I am on the right path in my career journey post-university." Auf besonders anschauliche Weise fördert das Aventinus-Gymnasium in Burghausen das Umweltbewusstsein seiner Achtklässler: In einem einjährigen, fächerübergreifenden Forschungsprojekt setzen sich die Schülerinnen und Schüler in Zusammenarbeit mit der Universität Innsbruck intensiv mit dem Klimawandel auseinander. Höhepunkt ist ein Forschungsaufenthalt in Schladming, denn die Einflüsse des Klimawandels sind in Gebirgsräumen besonders deutlich sichtbar. Für uns bei Westlake Vinnolit sind Umweltschutz und Nachhaltigkeit zentrale Themen, die uns alle beschäftigen, und es ist uns wichtig, dass sich auch Jugendliche frühzeitig damit auseinandersetzen. Daher unterstützen wir dieses Projekt sehr gerne.
