Last week, the White House Initiative on Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Pacific Islanders—in partnership with the White House Office of Public Engagement—made history by hosting the first-ever White House Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) Convening. Around 100 community leaders, state and local elected officials, and federal appointees joined together to celebrate the cultures and achievements of NHPI communities and hear what the Administration is has been doing to meet their needs. Attendees heard from top leaders in the Biden-Harris administration, including Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, U.S. Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Deanne Criswell, National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi, Office of Management and Budget Deputy Director Nani Coloretti, and Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Senior Liaison Erika Moritsugu. We even had a special guest appearance from Maia Kealoha who will star as Lilo Pelekai in the upcoming live-action remake of ‘Lilo and Stitch.’ Grateful to all who helped make this inaugural event a success. This one’s for the books! Photography by Albert Ting
