WHYY is your local, Member-supported NPR and PBS station, delivering information, entertainment and education.
About us
WHYY makes our region a better place, connecting each of us to the world's richest ideas and all of us to each other through Member-supported public media. Through WHYY-FM 90.9, WHYY-TV 12 and WHYY.org, we reach 1.3 million people on average each week in the Greater Philadelphia area. We are your local PBS and NPR member station, bringing you long-time favorite programs, such as Masterpiece and All Things Considered. But our national programs are only the tip of the iceberg. WHYY Studios produces more than a dozen local programs, such as Fresh Air with Terry Gross, You Oughta Know and The Connection with Marty Moss-Coane. We offer a robust regional news service supported by an award-winning newsroom, home to Billy Penn, PlanPhilly and the WHYY Climate Desk. We are deeply committed to the needs of young people. Many people’s first experience with WHYY is watching our award-winning PBS Kids television programs as a child. We also teach thousands of kids to make videos in 40+ local schools and at our studio. We bring together people in the region for interesting and fun events in person and online. From critical community conversations to advanced screenings with big personalities, keep an eye on WHYY.org/events for things to do all year round. Of course, all of this is only possible through Member support.

An exciting project in playful learning!
A new pilot program called Live and Learn brings playful learning installations to two affordable housing communities in North Philadelphia. Based on the science of playful learning and child development, these installations seek to create spaces where kids can strengthen their skills in language and vocabulary, math and science, problem solving, and more. In collaboration with educators, housing developers, and local nonprofit organizations, parents and community residents shape the goals, designs, and themes of each project. Pictured here: Tyrannosaurus Pledge, a genus of large theropod dinosaur that supports independent, accessible public media!
It was a lot of fun to record WHYY fundraising breaks with Cherri Gregg at The Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University! Love the backdrop and the green Eagles lights!

WHYY “Morning Edition” host Jennifer Lynn went microphone to microphone with KCUR 89.3 host Steve Kraske in a friendly — but competitive — debate about the Birds and the Chiefs. Bragging rights and Tastykake treats are on the line. https://lnkd.in/g88jbZcv
