Protecting Our Natural World, Together
About us
Wild Earth Allies’ mission is to protect vital areas of our natural world for the benefit of wildlife, habitats, and people by inspiring collaborative action. Together with our field partners, we focus on locally-led actions to protect wildlife and habitats in ways that improve human well-being. We have built a solid track record of success over decades. Today, our community-based conservation efforts make a lasting, positive impact across more than 3 million acres of priority terrestrial and marine ecosystems globally. Our greatest strength is our people. We join forces with accomplished local practitioners to turn the tide of biodiversity and habitat loss in critical areas around the world. We engage in collaborative program design, implementation, and shared learning to maximize positive outcomes for wildlife, habitats, and people. Wild Earth Allies is built on important values—optimism, cultural respect, shared learning, and integrity. We select our initiatives based on the most pressing needs and genuine opportunities to catalyze change in culturally appropriate ways. Our lean structure allows donor support to quickly reach the field to benefit wildlife, habitats, and people. We have earned top nonprofit rankings from Charity Navigator for over a decade and the highest level of recognition by Candid (formerly GuideStar), the Platinum Seal of Transparency.

Gibbons are the acrobats of the forest, swinging as far as 15 meters in a single leap! 🌳💨 On #WorldGibbonDay, we celebrate these incredible primates and their unique role in our ecosystems. Endangered pileated gibbons are among the world’s most understudied apes, but our new research is uncovering vital data on this species in Cambodia. In the most comprehensive assessment to date in Prey Lang Forest, our team estimated 5,900 pileated gibbons in the forest’s core biodiversity zone—confirming the area as a globally important refuge for the species. We are now expanding our surveys and working with the government and Indigenous Kuy communities to protect this vital ecosystem for pileated gibbons. Thank you to the Arcus Foundation and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) for supporting this work! #Cambodia #PreyLang #Gibbons #Conservation

“We have smiles on our faces because the issues stemming from water shortages are finally being resolved. Now, we can enjoy a peaceful life without worrying about the water crisis.” —Iradukunda Samuel and Niyomungeri Angelique, water tank recipients In the foothills of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park, many families lack access to water at home and must walk for hours in search of it—often through mountain gorilla habitat in the park. Since 2018, Wild Earth Allies has teamed up with the women-led cooperative Imbereheza Gahunga to build over 950 household water tanks. This initiative provides fresh water to homes and reduces the need for families to enter the park, benefiting both people and gorillas. Seagrass beds are an important part of ocean ecosystems, serving as a home to many marine animals, including endangered species. They also play a key role in the fight against climate change. Despite occupying only 0.2% of the seafloor, seagrass accounts for 10% of the ocean’s capacity to store carbon! 🤯 By trapping carbon in their roots and soil, seagrass beds reduce carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. 🌊🐠 Wild Earth Allies works with the government and community fisheries in Cambodia to decrease pressures on seagrass meadows, establish marine protected areas, and spread awareness about how we can protect these aquatic plants. #Seagrass #Conservation #MarineConservation #Cambodia 📷: Allison Shelley

New life is taking root in Cambodia's Prey Lang Forest! In collaboration with the Stung Treng Department of Environment, Wild Earth Allies recently planted 3,431 tree seedlings, including several critical species for restoring biodiversity. 🌱🌳 With the help of 50 Indigenous Kuy community members, we planted these seedlings in degraded forest areas. This effort creates vital habitats where Asian elephants and other wildlife can thrive. Our nurseries in Siem Bouk and Romdeng are growing even more seedlings, including critically endangered rosewood trees to plant during the next rainy season. Together, we're reviving Prey Lang's ecosystems and protecting Cambodia's unique biodiversity. #Cambodia #Conservation #Biodiversity #EndangeredSpecies #Reforestation #Wildlife

“The more I learn about the importance of a healthy ocean for biodiversity, climate regulation, and food security, the more I realize the urgency of protecting our marine environment.” #ICYMI, check out our latest blog, featuring an interview with Ith Srey Oun, our Marine Project Coordinator in Cambodia. Hear from Srey Oun Ith about what makes Cambodia’s marine ecosystems unique and why she’s hopeful young conservation leaders will make a difference. #Conservation #Ecosystem #Cambodia #MarineConservation https://loom.ly/DBr4kmw

Here at Wild Earth Allies, we’ll take any excuse to celebrate animals! On #WorldAnimalDay, we’re reminded that every action counts when it comes to protecting wildlife and conserving the habitats they call home. 🌍 We believe that sustainable conservation starts at the local level, which is why we work with communities in our program areas around the world to drive lasting change for people and nature. #Conservation #Wildlife #Gorilla #MountainGorilla 📷: Eric Sambol

In Costa Rica, Wild Earth Allies is working with Latin American Sea Turtles (LAST) to protect leatherback sea turtles’ nesting areas against one of the biggest risks these animals face in the region—the illegal consumption of their eggs. LAST works to create an environment where humans and sea turtles live in harmony through several projects: 🐢 Patrolling beaches to find and relocate turtle eggs to protected hatcheries, where they are monitored and released once hatched 🌱 Restoring coastal forests where leatherback turtles nest 📚 Educating students on the importance of marine conservation 🔬Conducting research to learn more about leatherbacks and other sea turtle species nesting on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast #SeaTurtle #CostaRica #MarineConservation #Conservation #Leatherback 📷: LAST
