What is the missing middle? The middle refers to housing types that fall between single-family and large-scale apartments. It is missing because frankly - the time and effort to legalize the ‘multi-family’ homes makes it not make sense financially. Developers are forced to build big and obnoxious and insensitively (to the environment and local vernacular) - no one likes what that does to communities. There are few who see the value in creating the missing middle, and I’m thankful for the client / builder here who saw the vision and created a beautiful property with 8 new dwelling units for Wilmington, NC.
