Our Assistant Superintendent sharing with the school community and beyond her vision and inspiration behind Windsor’s North Star. Let’s hear from Dr. Noha Abdel-Hady —————————————————————————- I talk about our North Star in Windsor wherever I go, and I’m often asked, “How did it come to be? Why does it matter so much? How did you inspire every educator and leader to truly own it?” Well, here’s the story of Windsor’s North Star… Over the past eight years in Windsor Public Schools, I dedicated myself to finding what was missing. We have incredible students, talented teachers, strong leaders, supportive community members, a committed Board, and resources that many only dream of. And yet, I kept asking: why aren’t we achieving at the highest level? Why aren’t we among the top districts in the nation? It dawned on me that we were pulling in so many directions, losing sight of what truly mattered. I began to wonder: What are we all about? What do I want Windsor to be known for? So, I started asking everyone—teachers, leaders, students, parents. I spent months in classrooms, had countless conversations with our superintendent and directors. And I realized the missing link: we needed a North Star. We needed a shared vision, a guiding light to align us on the path to elevate Windsor to the next level. Drawing from my NEASC training and the ACE principles, and armed with the data I’d gathered, I began shaping the vision for Windsor’s North Star. But this wasn’t just my vision—it had to belong to all of us. Over months, I shared this vision, gathered feedback from every corner of our school community, and refined it together. By August 2024, our North Star was born. Today, three months into the school year, I see it shining everywhere I look. In classrooms from PreK to high school, I witness teachers bringing the North Star to life through their practices, aligning with our instructional expectations. I see students, truly engaged, becoming the critical thinkers we know they can be. I see a school community united under one vision, on a clear path toward our mission to “develop the genius in every child.” This journey has transformed me professionally, reinforcing the power of uniting an entire community around one shared goal. And if you know me, you know my famous line: “Watch Windsor become the Finland of Connecticut.” With every step, every classroom, and every student, I know deep in my heart we’ll get there. #WeAreWINdsor
