Remembering Wine Country Architect Howard Backen (1936-2024) Howard Backen designed upwards of 300 private homes, 40 restaurants, and more than 60 wineries, many of which are located in Napa Valley. He was arguably one of Napa's most influential figures without ever touching a wine grape. Backen's signature farmhouse-chic style champions functionality and natural harmony, blending seamlessly with the landscape. From Bond to Screaming Eagle and beyond, his work continues to inspire and shape the region. https://lnkd.in/eHWJasdi #winespectator #winenews #napa #howardbacken #architecture Howard Backen, FAIA

About us
Founded in 1976, Wine Spectator is the world’s most influential source of wine information, both in print and on the Internet. Wine Spectator editors review more than 11,000 wines each year in blind tastings, and each issue contains from 400 to more than 600 wine reviews with detailed tasting notes and analysis. The magazine sets stringent standards for itself and relies on the proven abilities and experiences of its editors as tasters and critics. WineSpectator.com, launched in October 1996, features more than 400,000 wine ratings, tasting reports, news and features, editors' blogs, videos and other original content you won't find anywhere else. In 1981, Wine Spectator launched its Restaurant Awards program, which recognizes restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. The program reviews restaurant wine lists on three levels: the Award of Excellence, with 2,453 current winners; the Best of Award of Excellence, with 1,215 current winners; and the Grand Award, with 91 current winners. Winners are located in all 50 states and over 75 countries. For more information, please visit www.winespectator.com or follow @WineSpectator on Twitter and Instagram.

🎙️ Wine Spectator's Straight Talk podcast is back with an all-new episode! Straight from the cover of Wine Spectator and the season 3 premiere of The Bear, legendary chef Daniel Boulud invites us into the Daniel dining room for an exclusive interview about what it means to be a chef today, his legacy of mentorship, and why his next restaurant will reflect a shift in allegiance since becoming a U.S. citizen in 2021: "I finally became American. I always felt like I'm French … but with my family here, I'm definitely settled here ... it is more important to be American today for me than to be French." 🇺🇸🇫🇷 Join Straight Talk host James Molesworth as he speaks with senior editor Kristen Bieler about her cover story and interview with Boulud. Plus, Wine Spectator advice expert Dr. Vinny settles the debate on tipping on expensive bottles of wine at a restaurant. 🍷 https://lnkd.in/eZVVBAYb #winespectator #podcast #straightalk #danielboulud #thebear Daniel Boulud

In 2016 Frank Scherkenback purchased a property atop Howell Mountain and rechristened it Almacerro. Included in Scherkenbach’s purchase: 6.5 acres of Cabernet vines planted in 1997 (old by Napa standards). He hired the respected Mike Wolf to handle farming, Françoise Peschon of Vine Hill Ranch as consulting winemaker, and Matilda Scott, who had previously worked at Arkenstone, as the in-house winemaker. If you like throwback-styled Cabs that bristle with minerality and require some patient cellaring, you’ll want to get in on the ground floor with the pair of bottlings now being produced here. Is This Tuscany’s Greatest Summer Red Wine? The dog days of summer send contributing editor Robert Camuto in pursuit of a favorite treat: summer reds to serve chilled, paired with food off the grill or with cool salads. The latest on his list of Italian summer cravings is Ciliegiolo, with its red fruit flavors, soft tannins, deep ruby color, bright acidity and spicy aromas. Planted across Tuscany and a wide swath of central Italy, Ciliegiolo is an old blending variety now coming into its own. Find out why here: https://lnkd.in/ehjvhAi6 #winespectator #tuscany #robertcamuto #redwine

Pinot Noir is one of the world’s most popular red wine grapes. While the variety originated hundreds of years ago in France’s Burgundy region, it has spread across the globe, much like its white Burgundian counterpart Chardonnay. Today, wine lovers can enjoy Pinot Noirs from California’s Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley, Oregon’s Willamette Valley, New Zealand’s Marlborough and Central Otago, and many other regions. While versions from different countries and appellations can vary in style, a few things unite most Pinot Noirs. Generally, these red wines are beloved for their easy-drinking qualities, including lower levels of tannins, generous red fruit flavors and pronounced floral accents. Read on to learn more about this leading grape variety, including its most popular regions, main styles, food pairings and much more. https://lnkd.in/gx7Qi-nZ #pinotnoir #pinotnoirwine #winespectator #wine
