As expected, #climateweekNYC was extremely motivating. There is so much hope and wonderful work being done to address and prepare for the climate crisis. One observation: Agriculture and food systems are front and center now more than ever both as a solution to climate change, to improve food security in the face of the climate crisis, and to adapt and prepare for current and future climates. Makes me even more excited for many of the Winrock International programs focused on sustainable and market driven climate smart agriculture solutions, such as the USDA funded thaiRAIN project, the USAID Climate Resilient Agriculture Program in the Mekong Delta, and our work supporting Nestlé identify and reduce emissions in their supply chain. Looking forward to what comes out of the upcoming Cracking the Nut conference from Oct 7-8 in Abuja, Nigeria to explore the business case of using climate finance to support adaptation within agriculture and food systems. https://lnkd.in/ge9iHcPk

Open burning, both of household waste and agricultural straw, is a major source of air pollution in rural and urban Vietnam, contributing to deteriorating air quality and increasing public health risks. To tackle this pressing issue, the USAID Reducing Pollution project, implemented by Winrock International, is supporting community-driven solutions aimed at reducing open burning and promoting sustainable waste management practices in the Red River Delta. #ReducingPollution #Climate #ClimateSolutions #ClimateChange #Development #Environment #Sustainability #SustainableAg

Yesterday at a #ClimateWeekNYC event - 𝘼𝙘𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙈𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙢 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙇𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚-𝙎𝙘𝙖𝙡𝙚 𝙏𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨𝙩 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙅𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙙𝙞𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙀𝘿𝘿+ - hosted by the Jurisdictional REDD+ Technical Assistance Partnership (JTAP) and Forest & Climate Leaders' Partnership. High-quality jurisdictional #REDD+ programs hold transformative potential to scale up tropical forest conservation and unlock billions in finance for nature. It was inspiring to hear from panel speakers on J-REDD+ successes in Brazil and Ghana, while acknowledging the challenges that remain and significant technical assistance needs to navigate evolving requirements and ensure equitable participation and benefits for forest-dependent communities. The JTAP is an emerging collaboration of global REDD+ leaders (Winrock International’s Ecosystem Services Unit, Climate Law and Policy, Conservation International, Environmental Defense Fund, Wildlife Conservation Society) working to help forest country partners accelerate their path to J-REDD+ success. Through holistic and agile approaches, JTAP is uniquely designed to meet jurisdictions’ complex and time-sensitive needs. I am excited to see the continued impact we can make together in partnership with forest jurisdiction governments, Indigenous Peoples, and local communities.

🌍 Thrilled to be in New York for #ClimateWeekNYC 🌱— Always a great week to hear the pulse of climate action, share ideas, get inspired and connect with new and old friends. On Wednesday, I’ll be speaking at VCM Day about the Energy Transition Accelerator (ETA) and how ETA credits can play a vital role in tackling scope 3 emissions. This concept is at the heart of a recent brief from Winrock International—a must-read if you're looking to decarbonize your value chains: https://lnkd.in/gGNCAfnK. In addition to that, I’ll be involved in several workshops throughout the week, focused on: - Scope 3 emissions interventions - Carbon removals - And more! 📅 Also, I'm looking forward to the great content that will presented at Green Markets Day on Tuesday. 🤝 Let’s Connect! If you're attending or in town, drop me a message. I’ll be here Monday through Friday and would love to chat about climate solutions, scope 3 emissions, carbon accounting, etc.! Looking forward to all the impactful conversations. #ClimateAction #Scope3 #CarbonAccounting #EnergyTransitionAccelerator #Sustainability #NetZero

A key priority for USAID Asia Counter Trafficking in Persons is to elevate and support survivor-centered and survivor-led approaches to counter trafficking. At the Regional Industry Forum on IUU Fishing, co-organized by SuFiA TS and USAID Asia CTIP, the Project brought in a survivor of human trafficking as an expert and guest speaker. After he was trafficked and forced to work on a Chinese-flagged fishing boat in Somalia for over 10 months, Rahmatulloh made a promise to himself that he would not let others go through the same experience he had. With support from allies, he founded and became the chair of the Indonesian Fishers Labour Union (Serikat Buruh Perikanan Indonesia: SBPI), a group of fishers and survivors dedicated to advocating for migrant fishers’ rights and combatting human trafficking and forced labor in the industry. The organization, funded by annual membership fees, conducts outreach to fishers to ensure they know their rights, and what they could do if their rights are not respected. At the Regional Industry Forum, participants from government, private sector, and civil society from countries across Asia had the opportunity to hear directly from Rahmatulloh as he shared his story and the work being done by SBPI. His story inspired follow-up conversations amongst participants on the importance of collaborating with worker- and survivor-run associations such as SBPI. A few exchanged contacts with Rahmatulloh to continue the conversation. #USAID #USAIDAsiaCTIP #CTIP #HumanTrafficking #PrivateSectorEngagement #SurvivorEngagement #FairLabor #WorkerRights
