Cybersecurity is a hot topic for government contractors for several reasons, including the ongoing pattern of False Claims Act settlements related to alleged violations of cybersecurity requirements under a government contract. Compliance with cybersecurity requirements must be a priority for government contractors—both prime contractors and subcontractors. If a business has a contract (or flowdown provision) that includes cybersecurity requirements—particularly FAR 52.204-21 or DFARS 252.204-7012—compliance is not optional, as noncompliance could lead to serious penalties for every invoice submitted to the government.
