I noticed there was a change in her attitude. And others were starting to notice too. Something was “off”. But it was challenging to figure out what caused the change. Work was still getting done, but not at the same level. Other team members were picking up the slack. They were avoiding the conversation, because it was an attitude. They couldn’t point to something specific. It was a feeling. I see this happen often in workplaces. There’s been a change, but nothing concrete to point to. So we carry on. Yet this attitude or behavior has created a barrier or hurdle and it prevents the organization from moving forward. When this happens, it is time to slow down, assess what is happening, make a new path, and then you can move forward. Continuing to forge ahead while knowing there are culture misalignments or challenges only makes the hurdles and roadblocks bigger. For example, employees think that attitudes, actions and behaviors are acceptable and will continue to work that way, unless they are informed that it is not accepted or tolerated in your culture. And maybe they aren’t necessarily bad or toxic, but it still builds based on what is permitted to continue to happen. It is always best to pause, assess and make a plan to move forward. Then communicate, communicate, communicate. And actively work on cultivating your culture. Just like any relationship takes work to build and maintain, so does your workplace culture. ➡️What are you doing today to cultivate your culture? #MotivationMonday #culture #employeeengagement

I remember accepting the job and going out to buy a way too many new suits and jackets so that I would fit into this corporate role. It seemed normal. Start new corporate role, adopt the formal dress code, and buy new suits. Yet, those simple steps were part of what boxed me in. Part of what made it not feel like me. Part of what made it feel lonely, despite being among thousands of employees. In a world that often tries to fit us into neat boxes, it’s easy to feel like we need to conform to some “ideal” version of normal. But the truth is, there isn’t one. Each one of you has your own unique blend of experiences, quirks, and perspectives that make you who you are. Emotional wellness starts with accepting that your version of normal is not just okay—it’s essential. In your workplace, take a moment to honor your differences, to celebrate what makes each person who they are, and to create a world where everyone feels empowered to live their true self. The journey is yours, and that makes it perfect. 🌿 ➡️What can you do (or have you done) to accept your normal? #WellnessWednesday #EmotionalWellness

I’d like to give you some feedback…. When I hear that, I get a mix of emotions, 😬😥😅 and at the same time a lot of questions pop into my head wondering what it will be. But if we think of feedback as something that will help us grow, it flips the script. When you are giving feedback, you are sharing how someone can improve. It’s not telling them how much they messed up. It can be asking questions, giving examples, sharing stories. The conversation itself becomes a gift when you care. 🎁💛 According to numerous studies, feedback is more motivating when you: 🔸Meet face to face 🔸Compare the behavior to a standard, not others 🔸Suggest changes to make When you are receiving feedback, appreciate the gift. The person cares enough to want to help you improve. 🔸Ask questions. 🔸Ask for support. 🔸Ask how you can improve. The value is in the conversation and the time spent to figure out what is getting in the way currently and how to overcome it. I realize that some people really don’t know how to deliver feedback well. This means they avoid it. Or it comes out negative. Or hurtful. But the only way we can improve is by creating awareness and then working on how to overcome it. So, if someone is not good at giving feedback, talk to the person. Show them that you care, and see how you can help them grow! ➡️What are your best tips for giving feedback that helps someone grow? #MotivationMonday #leadership #feedback #growth

I walked down the hall at lunchtime without talking to any co-workers, returned to my office and closed the door. I had an idea and kept it to myself because I wasn’t provided the space or opportunity to share. I had ideas that felt different from others so I didn’t speak up. I had thoughts of concern and yet didn’t share because I feared the reaction to them. In all of these instances, I was reacting to the environment that was created and sustained. As leaders it is our responsibility to ensure we have an environment that is safe and our team can trust it and know what to expect. Without creating and cultivating the environment and culture regularly, we face unintended consequences. 🔸Ideas aren’t shared. 🔸Team members leave. 🔸Fear permeates. 🔸Growth is stifled. 🔸Confusion occurs. The thing is, without focusing on intentionally creating the environment, you really don’t know what will happen. It could go in many directions. The risks are great. Creating and cultivating a safe and healthy work environment takes time. It takes intention. Leaders need to make it their focus. Or risk focusing on many other aspects and taking extra time there based on the negative consequences that have occurred. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather spend my time cultivating the culture, helping team members grow, and celebrating success than investigating complaints, filling vacant positions, and doing damage control. Take a moment and evaluate your environment. If it’s not what you want, choose an action to take. Start today so you can improve for tomorrow. #MotivationMonday #Culture #Leadership
