WORKING FOR YOU IN WINNEBAGO COUNTY: A bridge-rehabilitation project was recently completed on I-41 in Oshkosh to extend the life of the bridges and improve safety. Crews removed and replaced structure approaches for the north and southbound I-41 bridges over the main channel of Lake Butte des Morts. They also relocated a 100-foot section of cable barrier and replaced existing safety and weight enforcement facilities (SWEF). The project was finished on time and on budget. #WorkingForYou

NEW SPECIAL LICENSE PLATE: The Wisconsin DMV now offers a new special license plate designed and sponsored by the International Crane Foundation, a non-profit organization. The plate supports the organization’s worldwide efforts to conserve cranes and the ecosystems, watersheds, and flyways they depend on through the annual $25 tax-deductible contribution. After back-to-back weekend closures of portions of Interstate 894, we appreciate all motorists in the Milwaukee area for sticking with us. I-894 is one of the most traveled stretches of freeway in Wisconsin. Originally built in 1963, the pavement along this urban corridor showed signs of aging, provided a poor ride quality, and needed to be replaced. These closures, while temporarily inconvenient, are designed to expedite repairs and reduce long-term disruptions in the work zone. Full closures allow crews to work around the clock without interruptions caused by passing vehicles, which significantly improves the project timeline and increases safety for the construction teams. Crews are also able to utilize echelon paving techniques by operating multiple paving machines at the same time in a staggered formation. This approach improves the longitudinal joints in the pavement and creates a smoother product. Additionally, these closures provide benefits in cost saving. When construction teams streamline their work, it can lead to lower labor costs and reduced project delays, which ultimately saves the taxpayer money. “We understand that closing an interstate is a big deal,” said WisDOT Project Manager Eric. “It takes a lot of coordination and public buy-in. Your cooperation has been greatly appreciated during these closures, as we work to provide safer and more efficient roadways for everyone.” As the I-894 improvement project progresses, WisDOT is encouraging motorists to stay vigilant, practice safe driving behaviors, and slow down in work zones. A new historical marker was recently erected near Manitowish Waters in Vilas County. The marker commemorates the FBI agents that were injured or killed in a violent confrontation that occurred with the Dillinger gang over Easter weekend in April of 1934 at the Little Bohemia Lodge. WisDOT staff assisted in finding a safe location for the marker where it could still be seen from US 51. A dedication event was held in August when FBI officials and Wisconsin State Historical Society staff spoke on the history. Also present were descendants of the civilians and FBI agents that were involved. #ThrowbackThursday

WORKING FOR YOU IN ONEIDA COUNTY: A culvert-replacement project has begun on WIS 32 near Three Lakes to minimize flooding risks. Crews are replacing the culvert at Julia Creek at the White Lake inlet. Crews did not start the project until after Labor Day to minimize impact to drivers in the popular summer area. The road is currently detoured as crews replace the culvert. The project is scheduled for completion in November. More details: https://lnkd.in/gJ74Jp_M #WorkingForYou
