Our 12th annual Wisconsin Tech Summit was held on Monday, March 17 at American Family Field in Milwaukee. Tom Still, president of the Wisconsin Technology Council, kicked off the event with an overview of the day’s events by discussing “dos and don’ts’ for strategic meetings and other tips for emerging companies as they engaged with major firms during the day and after. Three sets of “Office Hours” followed, during which Spencer X. Smith offered advice on how to use artificial intelligence to win new business; Ilya Avdeev of the UW-Milwaukee Lubar Entrepreneurship Center hosted smaller breakout sessions to discuss how to build an MVP for your business; and Joey Frayne of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. discussed WEDC programs designed to help early-stage businesses succeed. Following the morning sessions, keynote speaker Derek Hyde of the Milwaukee Brewers — sponsored by AVI Systems — discussed fan-based tech innovation from traveling to the ballpark to finding seats, food, refreshments and more once there. A networking lunch, sponsored by UW-Madison Office of Business Engagement, and exhibitor booth visits followed. Three sets of “Office Hours” led off the afternoon, during which what Wisconsin companies should know about trade and tariffs was discussed by Roxanne Baumann of Baumann Global and Dennis Yen-Feng Lei, who leads the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago; Michelle Breen and Jenny Weeden of Accelity spoke about how startups can use LinkedIn for marketing practices; and David Arnstein, Venture Investors Health Fund; Dana Guthrie, Gateway Capital Partners; and Adam Kadlec of Rivermark Medical discussed essential tips young companies should know when meeting with potential investors. The day wrapped up with a networking reception for all attendees in X-Golf, sponsored by Findorff and UW-Milwaukee. About 170 “speed dates” involving major and emerging firms took place throughout the day. We hope you enjoyed the 2025 Tech Summit and hope to see you at future Tech Council events! https://lnkd.in/g7D5Phc

The imposition of #tariffs on imports from two bordering nations, #Canada and #Mexico, has quickly prompted uncertainty in supply chains and global markets. President Trump’s decision to enact tariffs – which are taxes by another name – has caused some people to ask why friends would penalize friends and invite retribution along the same lines. Announced tariffs on imports from Canada (the nation’s leading trade partner) and Mexico (second in total dollars) as well as #China (third) has left some observers wondering which nation might be next on Trump’s list. My bet after a recent visit to the Chicago area is it will not be the fourth-largest trade partner – #Japan. In fact, there are signs the United States and #Wisconsin may benefit from stronger economic and cultural ties with that East Asian power. Japan’s enduring status as a leading foreign investor in the United States, and its plans to invest more, is one such indicator.
