Today – Wednesday, October 16 – marks the one-year anniversary of the introduction of the Ceasefire Now Resolution by Reps. Cori Bush, Delia Ramirez, and Summer Lee. For a year the U.S. has failed to secure a ceasefire in Gaza because it continues to supply Israel with billions of dollars in weapons that are used to kill Palestinian civilians. Tell your Senators: It is beyond time for the U.S. to use our immense leverage to stop this bloodshed. In November the Senate will hold the first-ever vote in Congress to block weapons to Israel. Join thousands around the country in demanding your Senators stop these weapons to Israel: jvp.org/stopweapons

In a new piece for The National Interest, our co-founder and Center for International Policy research fellow Janet Abou-Elias warns: "The prospect of a sustained ground invasion in Lebanon presents a grim reality for the region... Congress must act swiftly to halt the flow of arms that could enable greater violence." Read more: https://lnkd.in/d9D_EQzH

I recently wrote for The National Interest about the grave implications of a sustained ground invasion in Lebanon, where the Lebanese people are already grappling with unprecedented economic hardship, political instability, and humanitarian crises. Without swift congressional action to halt arms transfers to the region, we risk exacerbating the destructive cycles of violence that have persisted for far too long. History has shown that in the absence of accountability, these cycles of violence are bound to repeat themselves. Read here: https://lnkd.in/dDMp7pnn

We joined more than 80+ groups to tell President Biden: “It is not in the national interest for the U.S. to be led into a war with Iran by Benjamin Netanyahu’s government in Israel. It is in the strong national interest to utilize diplomacy, backed by full leverage - including withholding weapons transfers to Israel’s military - to move all parties back from the brink and toward a ceasefire that ends the devastation & reverses the slide to regional war." With growing concerns about foreign policy issues and U.S. democracy, we invited five Carnegie grantees — experts in the field of international peace and security whose foreign policy projects look at domestic impact — to respond (in approximately 100 words or fewer) to the question: How do foreign policy decisions affect local U.S. communities?
