About us
Our mission at Women in Chemicals is to empower women in the chemical industry, but our community facilitates so much more. This week we hosted 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 with Villanova University SWE and AIChE chapters. 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 is a one-hour, virtual event featuring a panel of accomplished women sharing insights into their career journeys and offering valuable advice for students while inspiring young women to pursue a career in the Chemical Industry. We were joined by Nicole Garcia of Johnson Matthey, Erica Kuhlman of Sherwin-Williams, and Ashley Matz, MBA of 3M. Our panelists emphasized the crucial role of mentorship in career development, noting how both organic and assigned mentors have significantly influenced their journeys. They shared how their career paths have evolved, with some following a destination path and others taking the journey route that expands their breadth of knowledge and discovers new roles of interest. There is no wrong route. Additionally, the panelists encouraged students to apply for roles that genuinely interest them, advising not to be discouraged by not meeting every qualification listed in a job description. They stressed the importance of seizing opportunities and applying with confidence. A huge thank you to our panelists and our graduate student moderator, Amanda Consylman. This event would not have happened without the coordination of Villanova's Career Advisor, Vanessa Schmidt (Rutigliano). Interested in hosting a 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 with your school or organization?
